About this listen

When Lenny stumbles into the old Toffee Museum, he finds out its terrible secret - a Toffee Monster frozen for over 100 years. Not only is it dead, but it's broken up into little pieces. There's no way a monster can come back to life, is there? That's what Lenny thinks....

Frankenstein's monster meets Toffee

My boys (aged 5 and 7) weren't entirely sure what to make of this story. It has some truly amazing images - like flocks of chocolate bars walking down the street by themselves at night - but it also has a lot of sadness in.

The male Victorian historical lead was neglected as a child. The (SPOILER ALERT) Toffee Monster struggles to be accepted then or now. The slightly bonkers adults are all nursing some kind of internal trauma.

It works out alright in the end of course and Russell Boulter's voice is wonderful, but some of it is slightly uncomfortable listening. I'd probably chalk this one down for ages 6 or 7 and older. A lot going on.
