Great series
I'm doing a review for the whole series as I've left it so long since I started listening to them.
I would highly recommend this series and in fact I have done so to a number of people already. Very impressed with the writing, the research that seems to have been done and the historical accuracy is excellent.
Nice characters, good pace, interesting stories. Really interesting to see the ability of surgeons then and the ways Hugh deducts things.

Not an expert
I admire and enjoy the narration by Steven Crossley. I am not well read hence my interest in Audible in an attempt to better my experience. I have listened to every volume in this series thus far and thoroughly enjoyed it.

As usual very good but a little over complicated this time fewer characters and two less twists maybe?

Gently introguing
I am enjoying the stories about Hugh and his work in solving mysteries at Bampton but I do wish there was a different narrator. Stephen Crossly has this rather irritating lilt to his voice which never changes and is always rather dour. He could do with a few lessons in engaging narration which is why I'm only giving 4 stars.

Gloomy and dull
I’ve enjoyed the other stories albeit finding the narrator’s voice too old for the character. However, there was far too much religious proselytising in this gloomy and dull tale of woe. Little pace and the main character appears to have donned his pipe and slippers along with his holier than thou matron of a wife. I think it high time Hugh was archived. He’s become boring, sanctimonious and the plot gave him nowhere to go other than being pompous, resigned and lecturing. Needless to say I won’t buy another miserable tale.
