RECLAIM POWER, REST AND HEAL FROM GRIND CULTURE

'May we have space to navigate our lives from a liberated rest state. May all of culture slow down. The time to rest is now.' - The Nap Ministry

By founder and creator of The Nap Ministry, Rest is Resistance is a call-to-action for anyone suffering from the toxic urgency of modern-day life. It centres around the systemic issues that cause us to overwork, and ultimately burn out, and offers us liberation through rest. In its simplest form, rest becomes an act of resistance and a reclaiming of power because it disrupts and pushes back against capitalism and white supremacy. Slowing down moves us away from trying to operate at machine levels of productivity, to make us all more human.

In this fierce and tender manifesto, Tricia Hersey elevates rest as a divine right, and paves the way towards a more well-rested life that empowers imagination, invention and healing. Divided into four sections, Rest is Resistance explains Tricia's philosophy and methods, and includes both storytelling and practical advice. It will offer you the guidance and context to craft a rest practice for long-term health, both within yourself and society as a whole.

Rest is Resistance is not self-care: it is the urgent wake-up call you need to nap, rest and, most importantly, dream once more.

Viva la revolution!

I enjoyed this in a way I wasn’t expecting. This read gives us permission to rest and not feel
lazy or guilty. Reprogram and unlearn what was forced into the psyche. Beautifully told and sincerely received.

Transformational

The author makes a compelling case for the connection between capitalism, racism, ableism and other systems of oppression work together to eclipse our need for rest.

A more global understanding of how racism and capitalism have oppressed racialised people groups would have strengthened this for readers from the global south.

Important work

Grind culture disabled me and I wish I’d heard Tricia’s message sooner. We all need to hear it, but especially those marginalised, commodified and stigmatised as lazy.

The message was needed! From an exhausted single mum

I thoroughly enjoyed the journey of this book. It taught me that in little ways I was already imagining and day dreaming but also how that all represents a freedom within the capitalistic society. Where I can I now go at the pace of my child and I. I needed to hear this!

world changing

this is not a book about sleeping more and giving up on the world to have a big nap and "slack." it is about how we put our bodies through unnecessary pain and trauma, specifically marginalised bodies, specifically black bodies. I urge everyone to read this world changing, loving and compassionate book.
