Summary
Fun and disturbing. Packed with stunning, scenic writing, and a healthy dose of the undead!
When Hector James, an aspiring journalist, arrives at a small guesthouse in central Vietnam, he meets an old woman with a story to tell that might just give him the break he needs.
Hector and a motley company of guests join the elderly woman on a mission to find and exhume her brother's remains from a nearby island. However, little do they know that this isolated outpost was home to one of the most brutal and tragic battles of the Vietnam War.
As the group venture deep into the wilderness, the mysteries of the forgotten island, like the jungle around them, grow ever darker and more twisted. Will they succeed in their mission? Will Hector or any of his team make it off the island alive?
One thing is for certain. Finding out will be a war....

Excellent immersive story!
A group of people from very different backgrounds journey to a remote unpopulated Vietnamese island with a bloody past. A few of them are there to observe and assist a local woman trying to find her brother's bones to bury properly and give his spirit peace.
Shortly after arriving, they realise that they are not alone, but whatever is there and is viciously attacking them may not be living anymore...
The story was fully immersive with great authentic descriptions, it truly transports you to Vietnam, you can smell and taste the place, feel the heat and hear the buzz of mosquitos. And while you enjoy this virtual cultural tour, it soon plunges you deep into terrifying supernatural horror and violence. With fully formed characters and a gruesome snapshot of life at war, it's a deeply engaging read with a smart ending, I would definitely recommend checking it out!
The audiobook is also well narrated.

Good supernatural tale in an interesting setting
I enjoyed the backdrop of the Vietnam war and "groundhog day" supernatural story, very well performed.

Beautifully written
A beautifully written story that takes the reader on a visually enthralling adventure through Vietnam. AJ Roe is a master of imagery, I could picture each scene clearly, even the ones I wish I couldn’t…
A great read for fans of both thrillers and horror!
