Summary
The men of the 77th Infantry Division couldn't fathom why Private Desmond T. Doss would venture into the horrors of World War II without a single weapon to defend himself.
"You're nothing but a coward!" they said. But the soft-spoken medic insisted that his mission was to heal, not kill.
When Desmond knelt by his bunk to pray, his fellow soldiers hurled boots and insults at him. Even his commander wanted to throw him out of the army. But when his unit arrived on the battlefield, the intrepid medic quickly proved he was no coward.
One terrifying day in the vicious battle for Okinawa, dozens of Desmond's former tormenters lay wounded and bleeding atop Hacksaw Ridge. As Japanese bullets rained down, their fate seemed hopeless.
Could one unarmed man save their lives?
This pause-resister will keep you riveted to your seat as you discover how Desmond Doss became the first conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor. Desmond's dramatic true story of integrity, redemption, and heroism will inspire you to live by the courage of your convictions.

Good book bad impressions
The book it self is fantastic put the person reading the book has a tendency to use accents or other voices and I found it a bit of putting he could be describing a battle and I would be on floor laughing because of one of the impression so it messes with the tone

Not what I was expecting!
Would you try another book written by the authors or narrated by Chris George?
Badly written, badly narrated. Total waste of my time. I persevered as the story should have been truly humbling, about a man who's bravery went beyond the realms of most men involved in terrifying acts of war.
What was most disappointing about the authors’s story?
He was a truly brave man who stuck to his beliefs. I did not need the constant bible bashing.
What didn’t you like about Chris George’s performance?
His voice was a sing song irritating whine. He tried to do different voices but failed. Maybe if someone else had narrated it wouldn't have forced me to give up.
Was Redemption at Hacksaw Ridge worth the listening time?
Nope. I tried and kept going even though I found it ridiculously irritating!
Any additional comments?
I bought the book because I missed the film. Maybe it could have done with more editing before it got to the Audible Version. So sad, I was expecting so much more!

Don't waste your time with this tripe
I bought this book hoping to read a good first hand account of the war in the Pacific. Instead I got a very poorly written book which comes across as a religious propaganda tract for the 7th Day Adventists.
This book portrays Private Doss as a cross between Jesus Christ and Forrest Gump. As such it does a disservice to the main character who I have no doubt was a very brave man. The story is not helped by the narrator, who's silly affected accents were very off-putting.

Christian propaganda
Stilted performance and a little too much Christian propaganda for me. Was relieved when I finally got to the end.

Never got to enjoy this story.
l really wished l could have listened to this book but the Rushed overloud preface was enough to put me off. Also this is not a Childrens book so l do not need a mixture of silly and ill performed accents. Thank goodness you name your narrators so l can AVOID at all cost having to listen to this dreadful voice again. l went out and purchased the book and thoroughly enjoyed it. Loud, rushed, annoying voiced and smug is not how l prefer my narrators Thank You.
