Summary
Mya
My entire world has been rocked with a loss, and I need to escape.
With nothing left to lose, I leave behind the place I grew up and the memories haunting me there.
I trust no one. Then I meet him. And he won’t stay out of my way.
Jase
I trust few. I work hard and mind my own business.
But when a friend of a friend needs help, unfortunately, I can’t seem to do that. On the outside, she seems utterly broken. But I see that fire in her flickering under the surface.
She’s been through hell, but I’m insanely desperate to bring her back. I know plenty about recovery, after all.

a good story but lower on the angst
Recovery is Jase and Mya's story and I actually read and listened to this one on audio. I loved the story but I preferred this one in ebook format I felt more connection to the characters and more impact of the hurdles they were facing reading it rather than listening. For me I don't think I quite gelled with Lacy Laurel's performance as Mya. For me personally she wasn't feisty enough, I read her with more attitude so that's probably my preconceived perceptions in place before picking up the audio. I enjoyed Tor Thom's performance as Jase, he had an ease about him as well as a conflict which was great for Jase.
This was an easier read from Nicole not quite as angsty as some of her other books, at times I found Mya a touch on the judgemental side but I think that was in part her fear of not wanting people close to her and being broken by them again. Jase was a softie at heart despite his tall, dark and handsome exterior. I loved the secondary characters too (some we know and other we don't) however I did find myself loving on the scenes with Finn in, he added some levity and his loyalty to Jase was commendable. The little teaser into his story for Salvation has me hooked.
Mya and Jase have pretty instant chemistry, physically, but when they both open up emotionally they really came into their own. I loved how this one turned out in the end and seeing Mya finally learn to breathe and have hope was a magical moment.

Jase & Mya
Nicole Dykes! She is one of those authors that I know when I start the listen, I am going to be shredded and put back together in a beautiful way. This book is no exception. Mya is broken. Circumstances have her moving from her childhood home to start over and try to get on with her life. She is no way ready for a relationship, she trusts no one. That is until she meets her new roommate Jase. Jase too is flawed, struggling to keep his life on track and be a better person. He recognizes he beauty and goodness in Mya and is determined to bring it all to the top. But is she ready for this? Will he convince her he is what she needs? Dykes takes us on a a journey of recovery, not only from tragic and traumatic incidences, but of personal and emotional scars. It's filled with the want to change, but the courage to do it is not easily found. These two are damaged, but hopefully their trek together will help build the courage to make the changes and fill their hearts. It's deeply emotional and a wonderful story. I can't wait to see what Dykes has in store for us next!
Lacy Laurel and Tor Thom are our story tellers, and their poignant performance bring out all the emotions. Laurel delves into the complexity that is Mya and pulls out all of her baggage in her voice. I love that she is able to focus on all that is Mya and let us feel her pain and her healing. Thom gives Jase the layers of his personality with his nuances. We feel Jase's pain and strength making him incredibly real. I loved this team and enjoyed their touching portrayal of the story.

Another AMAZING N. Dykes book!
A story on self discovery, love, friendship and family.
I was given an audiobook of this amazing story and I was blown away by the performance! Lacy and Tor truly did bring out all the emotions and I was truly moved by their portrayal of the characters! Mya and Jase have an amazing relationship from start to finish. Of course both of them have their flaws but the two of them are so kind hearted even though the world has hurt them constantly. Everything about this audiobook was amazing from the side characters, the plot and the love between Jase and Mya. I am really excited for the rest of the series! Another great Nicole Dykes book!

Mya & Jase Story
Recovery focuses on Mya and Jase. They both have had to overcome obstacles and gone through their own emotional issues. I love how real these characters are. This book will get you in the feelers and want more. The writing is so good to get lost in their heartbreaking journey to finding peace and love.

Recovery
Recovery is about Mya and Chase. It follows Redemption. Redemption was about Logan and Quinn's story. Logan and Quinn are now located in Tennessee. They own a bar and a tattoo shop right next to each other. They have an appartment above the tattoo shop. Chase, Finn, James and Trevor live in the appartment. Mya grew up with Quinn and Logan. She is a few years younger then them. She is running from her memories that haunt her. Quinn offers her a place to live and a job away from her past. Mya and Chase have an instant connection. This book ends in a HFN, but now I need to know about Charity! Tor Thom and Lacy Laurel did a great job narrating.

4.5 Stars
4.5 Stars I have to come to the conclusion that every book by this author that I read will break me in some way or another. This was no different. This was a heartbreaking tornado of a book from the start to the end. The audio was so beautifully done and my heart broke a million times for both Mya and Jase in their ways. I now really want Charity's story. It'll be a rough one I'm sure. I volunteered to listen and review a complimentary copy of this. All opinions are my own.
