"Greed, manipulation and violence...
...and that only describes the law makers."
The United States of America is disintegrating with rioters indiscriminately killing in the streets and fires raging in major cities. In desperation, the authorities remove the elite smoke jumpers, the forest fire fighters, to reinforce the urban firemen. Dane Talbot is a smoke jumper, sent to Chicago where she grew uo, the place where her father died, the town she'd hoped she'd escaped forever.
Through short, easily accessible chapters, each recounted by a named chatacter, the overlapping stories combine to tell Dale's story, both past and present. And there is near non stop action and believable conversation plus emotional response in violent times. To be able to perform this book the narrator had to have a good range of believable character voices and this Brian Callanon most certainly has, together with good modulation ad timing sense. Although, initially, he sounded slightly jarring, but this quickly changed, fitting with the nature of the writing.
My thanks to the rights holder who, at my request, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy. Rebel Blaze is an easy immersive read which leaves the reader wanting more.

A pretty straightforward story
Although I personally would have preferred a bit more "in the now" action, there's nothing wrong with the book. It's a very easy listen, it's easy to follow characters from both "now" and "then", the characters are nicely developed and I was really starting to feel accepting of Danes reasoning and the overall story arc when it finished. I do hope the next in the series really gets into the now and gives us more information about the dystopia

“I don’t mind my own death, but it’s not given freely”
A great start to the series. I like how the story is a believable telling rather than an exaggerated “world falls apart within the hour!” as I do often come across.
There’s great characters and intense scenes and some real character development.
Highly recommend and I’m moving straight on to the next book!
Great narration with clear character differentiation and pacing!
This is my honest opinion on a free review copy.
