About this listen
The provincial Bennet family, home to five unmarried daughters, is turned upside down when a wealthy bachelor takes up a house nearby. Mr. Bingley enhances his instant popularity by hosting a ball and taking an interest in the eldest Bennet daughter, Jane. Meanwhile, Mr. Darcy, Bingley’s even wealthier friend, makes himself equally unpopular by his aloof disdain of country manners. Yet he is drawn, in spite of himself, to the spirited and intelligent Elizabeth Bennet, who proves to be his match in both wit and pride. Their sparkling repartee is a splendid performance of civilized sparring infused with unacknowledged romantic tension.
Pride and Prejudice delightfully captures the affectations and rivalries of class-conscious English families in an age when status and security for women hung entirely on matrimonial ambitions. Austen’s characters dance a delicate quadrille of flirtation and intrigue, making this book the most superb comedy of manners of Regency England. It is also the source of some of the most memorable characters ever written, from the fatuous Mr. Collins, whose proposal to Elizabeth is one of the finest comic passages in English literature, to the beloved heroine Elizabeth, whom the author herself deemed “as delightful a creature as ever appeared in print.”

Beautiful story
I choose to listen to this story over reading it and found that I was swept away and loved every part. The narrator have each character an extra depth, which I found to make this a great listen.

Brilliant in every way
Quite wonderful narration brings the book to life. On a par with the BBC TV dramatisation.
Builds into a tour de force.

This is of course excellent literature, just not for me!
I have had this audiobook for a while and thought I would listen during my 3 hour round trip commute into London today, to give myself sufficient time to truly get into it.
I have to admit I am not a Janeite. I live in the same area of Hampshire she did; we would’ve practically been neighbours......
I simply don’t love the stories. Not gritty enough for my tastes. I appreciate she was a brilliant writer and well ahead of her time. Too fluffy for me; Classic intelligent chic lit. Doesn’t float my boat unfortunately.
I tried!

Fantastic book as always, not so good a reader
I dont know this actress and that is probably why this is not a good audio book. She has one voice and thats expressionless so she has to over play certain characters like Mr Collins. Elizabeth swings from having a manly deep voice to a pathetic squeaky voice. I Would avoid purchasing this book like the plague. Sorry Ms Austen

misrepresented this is an abridged verion
very disappointed with this version of the book as it is abridged although stated to be unabridged, and thus misses out many of the subtle points that make the original so interesting. A great shame as it will give a false impression as to the quality of the original book.
