Summary
In a top-secret location deep in the Ural Mountains, Russian President Gennadiy Gryzlov has built his nation's most dangerous weapon since the atomic bomb - a fearsome tool to gain superiority in Russia's long-running battle with the West.
From inside Perun Aerie - an intricate network of underground tunnels and chambers that is the heart of the Russian cyberwarfare program - he is launching a carefully plotted series of attacks on an unsuspecting US and its European allies. The first strike targets Warsaw, Poland, where Russian malware wipes out the records of nearly every Polish bank account, imploding the country's financial system and panicking the rest of Europe.
When Stacy Anne Barbeau, the besieged American president, fails to effectively combat the Russian threat, Brad McLanahan, on some well-earned R and R with his new Polish girlfriend, Major Nadia Rozek, is called back to duty.
As the Russians' deadly tactics escalate - including full-scale assaults on Europe's power grid and the remote hijacking of a commercial airliner that kills hundreds of civilians - McLanahan and his Scion team kick into gear, arming themselves with the most advanced technological weaponry for the epic struggle ahead.
A patriot in the mould of his father, the late general Patrick McLanahan, Brad knows firsthand the price of freedom. With the world's fate hanging in the balance, will Scion succeed in turning back Gryzlov before he can realise his terrifying ambition to conquer the globe? And what will the toll of victory be?

Tom Clancy meets iron man
This is the first book I have listened to by this author, when I first started listening I seriously thought of returning it, however I stuck with it, and to be fair it was better than the sum of its parts, the narration is at best ok, the story although a bit cheesy was not too bad, however if you approach the book as a bit of fun escapism it is more enjoyable than I expected, I would listen to it again on a long journey because it is not too taxing and a bit of a “ripping yarn”

Having read most if not all the McClanahan books this has got to be......
Having read most if not all of the McClanahan books this has got to be the worst. The whole book is padded out with whatever came into the writers mind and was linked to the plot like a very oversized jacket out of a dumptster. A small saving grace ( which is where idea for the book came from) is the alleged Russian hacking events that have taken place.
So boring, you could almost the the rest of the chapter you had started.
This is the last of his books for me - give up Mr Brown or go back to co- writing with A N Other, they were not brilliant but a heck of a lot better than this “solo” offering.

Not so gripping and idiotic narration.
I chose this book on a whim I’m a fan of political drama, Sifi and military action books so I thought I was on to a winner and Jeff Harding narrating was a bonus. I’ve listened to him through the Jack Reacher series and he’s great, and still is ! So why the low performance rating? Well.... one character is basically a robot so the voice for him is some stupid synthesised imitation of Silon from battle star galactica. It’s barely audible and very distracting sounds like it’s done on a child’s voice changer app.
I wanted to like this book and I’m a keen audible listener with about 50 books under my belt. I drive a lot so these books are amazing but I found my self turning to pod casts and the radio just to avoid this one.
Don’t know what to listen to try
Jack Reacher for crime thriller
Ready player one for your retro sifi kicks
And if you like autobiography’s Brian Blessed is the most out loud laughing I’ve done on my own in a long time.
