About this listen

The Pimsleur® Method: the easiest, fastest way to learn a new language. Completely portable, easily downloadable, and lots of fun. You'll be speaking and understanding in no time flat!

This course includes lessons one through five from the European Portuguese Level 1 program, featuring 2.5 hours of language instruction. Each lesson provides 30 minutes of spoken language practice, with an introductory conversation and new vocabulary and structures. Detailed instructions enable you to understand and participate in the conversation. Practice for vocabulary introduced in previous lessons is included in each lesson. The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension and on learning to speak European Portuguese. A user's guide is included.

The European Portuguese Language

Portuguese is the mother tongue of about 170 million people, mainly in Portugal and the Portuguese islands in the Atlantic, Brazil, and Portugal's former overseas provinces in Africa and Asia. Pimsleur's European Portuguese teaches the Lisbon dialect of Portuguese.

Critic reviews

"Pimsleur programs provide plenty of positive reinforcement that will keep learners on track, and we found that Pimsleur gave us more proficiency and confidence in speaking the new language than any of the other language programs we reviewed." ( AudioFile magazine)

Explanation àbout Pimsleur to long.

The learning of the language is fine but the time wasted, about 14 minutes plus, telling you about the Pimsleur method is a waste of time that could have been used to teach.

30 words in the whole book

I believe that the whole book has about 30 words. The lessons are very repetitive and slow. I did not learn much at all.

Very sparse content & PDF useless

Very limited material. PDF addresses the ‘Pimsleur Method’ - not the content of the lessons, so no use whatsoever to the learner, who is forced to guess the spelling of all the new words in the audio content. Very poor value for money.

discriminating...

it implies me being an american man in first place - not leaving a chance to be someone else... Why do you think I try to get European Portuguese (not Brazilian)? I live in Europe; don't speak AMERICAN English; don't have any intention to go to America. It supposed to be for any English speaker and not for Americans only, ain't it? I speak not too bad British English - thought it's not my native.. What's more I'm not a man - why there is no chance to be woman? That feels depressive.
