About this listen
The 1910 University of Pittsburgh football team not only had the honor of being the second undefeated team in the program’s history, the first being the 1904 squad that went 10-0, but it also did something that the ’04 squad didn’t, it went through the entire campaign with a defense that didn’t allow a point. It was as close to perfection as a team could achieve. Win all your games and pitch a shutout in every contest.
Led by All-American back Tex Richards and Hall of Fame coach Joe Thompson, this squad should receive more credit for being one of the greatest ever produced in the history of the program, but it is largely forgotten. Thompson was a great story himself. Elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1971, he was not only an incredible coach but a successful lawyer, a PA State Senator and a great hero in World War I who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his inspirational bravery.
The story of this team is so much more than the record they produced. It is truly one that should be honored as one of the best to wear a Panther uniform.
