Summary
Nothing ever changes in Sanders. The town's still got a video store, for God's sake.
So why doesn't Eli Teague want to leave?
Not that he'd ever admit it, but maybe he's been waiting - waiting for the traveler to come back. The one who's roared into his life twice before, pausing just long enough to drop tantalizing clues before disappearing in a cloud of gunfire and a squeal of tires. The one who's a walking anachronism, with her tricorne hat, flintlock rifle, and steampunked Model A Ford.
The one who's being pursued by...something.
So when the mysterious traveler finally reappears, Eli's determined that this time, he's going to get some answers. But his hunt soon yields far more than he bargained for, plunging him headlong into a dizzying world full of competing factions and figures straight out of legend.
To make sense of the mystery at its heart, he must embark on a breakneck chase across the country and through two centuries of history - with nothing less than America's past, present, and future at stake.

Peter Clines and Ray Porter
Loved every second. Different tone and setting from the other books, but just as enjoyable, even though my favourite now. Zeik is a bad guy in two books so far, author really doesn’t like that name I’m guessing.

Thank you Peter. it's BRILLIANT
I'm in ore! genuinely moved. 5 star. I didn't think you would top "14" but you did. please write a sequel, there is room for another adventure... and without giving too much away (a little romance) they both deserve it!!!!

An enjoyable tale
A very enjoyable story. Hard to say much about the plot without spoilers so I won’t. Kept me listening across the few days it took for me to finish it and I’d have been happy to listen on after the end.
Narrator was perfect for the story.

Excellent as anticipated
Peter Clines remains one of my favourite authors. This is an excellent journey through history. This comment will make much more sense on reading the book.

Something different & brilliant
No spoilers. I used to have a particular genre of book that I'd listen too. A short while ago, I got into a book narrated by Ray Porter and that's when things changed. Call me strange, but I loved how Ray Porter narrated & I only listen to books narrated by him now. This has taken me on a journey listening to books that I would never in a million years have considered.
This is one of those and is so far different from what I used to listen too, but up there with all that I've enjoyed.
It's Ray's ability to tell a story and make each character there own. This book was brilliant from beginning to end. I found one little part mid way through that I thought was losing it,but cleverly it got back on track.
Often an ending can feel flat, especially after a story builds & the ending seems to be over all to quick. But this had the perfect finish. I don't know if the story is done or if there will be another, but the way the whole story builds and comes to a close I thought was done brilliantly. It just felt good leaving yiu wanting no more or no less.
There's nothing worse than thinking " is that it".
I hope there are more and if not I'll look forward to more books by the same author.

Paradox Enjoyed
I like Peter Clines writting style. He always seems to deliver a straightforward book, well written with an intriquing idea that comes to a satisfactory conclusion. This book is no exception.

Decidedly different, but entertaining nonetheless!
I'm not a fan of Clines' zombie series but did enjoy The Fold, so this departure was more in 'my line' literature. Some have called it steampunk, and yes there are elements of it, but it is more the odd backdrop than a prominent feature, within a History travelling based storyline. Yes the book is a little far fetched at times, but to be honest, I never let it both me. What you have here is a reasonably well written, enjoyable novel, with some quirks, that is delivered very well by the very reliable Ray Porter. It will never win a prize for literature, but, you are in the wrong place if you are looking for that sort of thing. I enjoyed it and felt it was well worth a credit.
