About this listen
In this subject guide, psychologist Dr. Jerry Kennard provides a concise and informal introduction to panic attacks, panic disorder, and the management of panic. The guide is for people who want something more than a leaflet or a webpage, but less than a formal textbook.
There was a time when the study of the human condition and mental health specifically was confined largely to students of psychology, medicine or nursing, or those involved in social care or health-related occupations. Today the message is finally filtering through that mental illness is extremely common and is not something to be feared or hidden away.
Dr. Jerry Kennard is an author, psychologist, and associate fellow of the British Psychological Society. He is a former health-care professional and academic.

A very decent introduction
I was offered a copy of this audiobook on my own request in exchange for a review.
With this audiobook Dr. Jerry Kennard offers us a simple and concise, but comprehensive introduction to the topic for people who prefer to listen. Listening to it might allow us to get an idea of the factors involved so we can take the first steps towards recovery and make informed decisions.
Some of the areas I found interesting were:
- the distinction between anxiety and panic.
- the role of stress.
- the role of avoidance, hypervigilance and safety behaviours.
- CBT; an explanation of how the process work and what to expect.
- the importance of a healthy lifestyle, self-help and goal setting.
- the usefulness and rationality of breathing exercises.
- the suggestion of some sites to gain further knowledge.
