Strong on Alzheimer's, Weak on Relationships

I was intrigued by "Overthinking in Relationships and Survivors of Alzheimer's" since my father passed away from Alzheimer's and from personal experience, I know how taxing this can be on relationships. However, I was left confused by the odd pairing of topics. The Alzheimer's section shines, offering valuable insights for caregivers. It's evident the author knows this territory well. However, the relationship portion feels tacked on and superficial, with generic advice on overthinking. I'm still puzzled about how these topics relate. The clear narration is a plus, making it easy to listen while busy. While the Alzheimer's content is solid, the disjointed nature of the audiobook makes it hard to fully recommend. It feels like two incomplete guides forced together.

Comprehensive and valuable

When it comes to specific diseases, care requires even more than a gentle touch and lots of patience. It requires that the caregiver has knowledge about that disease and the ability to adapt their care accordingly. This book wonderfully covers so much of what Alzheimer's is, how it affects someone on a day to day basis, and what sort of specific needs someone with it might have. As someone who has dealt with memory and other issues in again members of my family, I wish I had come across this book sooner! Check it out now before you need it, and be much better prepared.

Helpful Insights for both Life and Love

Listening to this audiobook felt like a breath of fresh air. The sections on overthinking in relationships really hit home for me, providing clear strategies that I could actually put into practice. The part about surviving Alzheimer’s was equally eye-opening, offering comfort and understanding for those going through it. It’s rare to find a book that speaks to two important areas of life so effectively. If you’re dealing with either, this audiobook is definitely worth your time.

This is so helpful

I love the perspective of this book because it addresses not only the Alzheimer's patient, but also the caretaker of the individual. This is such a difficult thing for anyone to go through, but most books will completely overlook the struggle of the person taking care of the patient. Most times this is a family member and I can only imagine how difficult it must be for someone to forget you. This book is full of helpful information, and the author is very compassionate and supportive throughout the book. The personal stories will really hit home with you, and I feel like this book can really help if you're going through this.

Great Resource for Those Preparing for Alzheimer's

Having lost two family members to Alzheimer's, I’m all too aware of the challenges that come with this disease. I was a lot younger when I first experienced my grandmother not knowing who I was, and I picked up this book because I want to be prepared in case my dad follows the same path as my grandmother. It’s been a comforting and informative read, offering practical advice on how to manage the emotional and mental challenges of caregiving (hint - it's hard and it sucks). The real-life stories really resonated with me, and I appreciate the focus on both the caregiver’s and the loved one’s well-being. This book has given me a sense of preparedness and peace as I think about what the future might hold.
