Summary

A bestselling gripping new summer thriller from the author of Our House, full of characters you'll love to hate and twists you'll never see coming!

'Riveting' THE TIMES

'A superstar of psychological thrillers' DAILY MAIL

A Richard and Judy Book Club Pick: 'We both loved this sizzling summer scorcher of a book'

***

This full cast production, featuring Richard Atlee (The Archers) as Perry, intensifies the growing tensions between two polarised communities across one scorching summer.

Charlotte and Perry long for summers at Cliff View, their gorgeous holiday home overlooking the turquoise waters of Pine Ridge. And now that city friends Amy and Linus have bought a property nearby, they plan lazy weeks of sun, sea and sipping rosé on Charlotte’s summerhouse veranda.

But there’s trouble in paradise…

A rising tide of resentment towards second-home owners is heading their way and small acts of criminal damage are escalating into something more menacing. By the end of the summer, families and friendships will be torn apart and Pine Ridge will be known for more than its sun-drenched beaches.

It will be known for murder…

This audiobook includes additional performances from Alix Dunmore, Dawn Murphy, George Naylor, Tom Babbage, and Lilly Anne Lefkow, with sound design from the awarding-winning ID Audio.

Ok.

An ok book, enjoyed it but found the ending annoying. Characters were interesting and well played

really good storytelling

It was a great book. I'm going to read more Candlish novels. And it was very well narrated. Pure delight.

Definitely worth a listen

Although I really enjoyed this, I didn’t find it as good as Our House by the same author, that was an absolute corker, and was adapted for TV. I felt maybe it went on for too long, but still had some very clever twists and turns that she really excels at and her observations of our class system is spot on, ending was a little disappointing. Narration was very good, especially loved Kenton from The archers doing Perry brilliantly.

Brilliant writing, clever,sophisticated and humorous.

Lots of characters so concentration needed, the author spent time with each so you knew these people, liked, disliked, metaphorically shouted at them. Twists and turns. You know it’s a good book when you just want alone time so you can listen in peace and savour. I have enjoyed books from this author previously and highly recommend this title.

Tedious

Seemed never ending. Got two thirds of the way through waiting for something to happen then decided I didn't really care. None of the characters had any depth snd the story as far as I read was bland. Shame I normally really like Louise Candlish not sure what happened here not a patch on her previous books

Disappointing compared to other Candlish books

I persevered but only because I'd paid for the book. I thought the narration was good but I just couldn't get into the story. I couldn't get a mental image of the place or characters at all. it was a shame because I've loved her other books.

Completely compelling

I could not stop listening to this, absolutely brilliant. The performance of the voice actors is fantastic. The story is twisty with amazing characters.

Enjoyable

I thought the characters in the book were interesting and the premise was good, the story held my attention until the last few chapters. I thought it lost its way a bit, and what set out to be an interesting plot descended into a story I felt I had to finish as I’d used a credit up!

Riveting holiday read

Clever twists and turns in this well dramatised read. The actors well very well chosen. So convincing. I really enjoyed the picture created of a divided village populated with believable characters. Such a beautiful setting with many plots threaded throughout the story. Must read more from the author.
