About this listen

A forbidden age gap stand-alone from small-town romance author Brooke Montgomery about a girl who connects with a mysterious man and her sister’s older ex-boyfriend who knows he should stay away…

Looking back, I shouldn’t have sent a half-naked photo to the group chat. But when someone asks about a specific horse saddle, I caution them to be careful or their ass will look like mine—covered in bruises.

While everyone makes inappropriate jokes, a guy who recently joined shows concern about my well-being. Turns out, “bruising like a peach” isn’t normal. One innocent photo turns into more and soon we’re texting every day.

The only problem—I have no idea who he is or his age. Even so, I find myself smiling at his messages and wanting to know more about him. Until the time comes when we’re supposed to finally meet and he stands me up.

At the advice of my best friend, I sign up for a dating app because I’m not about to let one guy ruin it for me. But one after another, they either stop responding or block me.

After stumbling across my sister’s older ex-boyfriend on the same app, I ask him for advice. I beg him to teach me how to please a man and how to have more sexual confidence. When he reluctantly agrees, things evolve between us, lines get crossed, and I find myself falling for the wrong person.

Except, I can’t shake this uneasy feeling about the mystery guy from the group chat—the one who never showed up. But people don’t just vanish without a trace in a Southern small town.

Only with Me is book four in the Sugarland Creek series. Each book in this Southern, small town series is a stand-alone and ends in a happily ever after.

Favorite of the series…so far!

*Unintentional hidden identities
*Slow burn
*Mental health rep
*He falls first
*Ex’s little sister
*Slow burn
*Age gap

I have thoroughly enjoyed every book in this series, but this one is my favorite so far. Both Harlow and Waylon have significant traumas in their past and that has them bonding in different ways throughout the story. There are so many layers to this plot and never a dull moment. See the tropes above for some hints as I don’t want to give too much away, but this book is an emotional roller coaster and I enjoyed every second of the ride. Please heed the content warnings at the beginning of the book as there are many areas that cover sensitive subject matters related to mental health issues.

Both narrators did an amazing job with this dual style narration. The way they made it feel effortless differentiating between characters was impressive. Ava Erickson really gave Harlow’s character an air of naïveté and innocence. Teddy Hamilton blew me away with his ability to voice both Waylon and Wilder with such unique personalities.

I haven’t been this excited for the next book in a series in a long time. I need Wilder’s story ASAP!!!

Great age gap, taboo romance

Overall Thoughts: We return to Sugar Creek and finally get to Waylon’s story. We are also introduced to Harlow, Waylon’s ex girlfriend’s little sister. Waylan is dealing with emotional turmoil over his twin’s behavior and feels responsible for him, and subsequently puts his life on hold. Harlow is all about family and living life to the fullest after “the incident” a few years back. Brooke is able to squeeze so much emotion out of these character’s, I’m in awe of how she does it. With enough angst to keep you listening, with incredible banter, and spice, this book is one of my favorites from this series. Harlow is narrated by Ava Erickson, who is the perfect match up, and the emotionally distant Waylon is voiced by the always impressive Teddy Hamilton.

Narration: Dual narration, first-person present tense, multiple POV, few flashbacks.

Tropes: acquaintances to friends to lovers, age gap, cowboy, virgin FMC, ex’s little sister, disability rep, mental health rep, dating app, secret identity, he teaches her about s3x, secret relationship, phone s3x, twin relationship

Overall: 5

Narration: 5

The responsible twin, always looking out for his brother Wilder (who lives up to his name), has put Waylon in a rut, until he starts having a secret conversation with a woman he’s never met from a group chat. When they finally agree to meet, and Waylan sees who it is he vows to end the inappropriate relationship.

Harlow wants to live life to the fullest and be there for her family, to help her dad who was hurt in a freak tractor accident. With her family going through so much in a short period of time, they have grown close, but that has also kept Harlow from finding friends of her own and dating.

When Waylon finds out Harlow is on a dating app, he signs up, just so he can keep talking to her. When Harlow asks him for “dating” tips, Waylon reluctantly agrees. When they develop feelings, they keep their relationship a secret until they can tell Harlow’s sister, but in a small town secrets don’t stay secret for long.

amazing read

My favourite of this series so far. The characters had so much chemistry and depth to them. The family problems felt so real and in places relatable. So excited to read more of this series.
