Summary

One person is all it takes to change a lifetime.... But how will you know if they’re the one?

Present:

Letty and Alf are the only English speakers at an Italian class in Rome, where they discover the language that really connects them is dance: Letty’s first love was ballet, while Alf was a junior ballroom champion. They come from different worlds, until the moment they waltz around the Piazza Navona, and everything changes.

Past:

But one moment can’t change the past, and it’s clear that Alf and Letty still have their secrets. What caused them to leave their lives behind in England? And who, or what, are they running from? As their relationship deepens, it becomes harder and harder to tell the truth.

Future:

When the unthinkable happens, Letty returns to London and Alf to Blackpool. Will they spend their lives apart or discover a future together?

Beautiful and sensitively written

For me, the story showed that the power of Love can overcome everything and highlights the struggle that people have with their thoughts that are negative and how they can destroy our lives and our futures, if we can’t let go of past happenings. Wonderful story with evocative descriptions of the beauty of Italy

A feast for the ears, and enticing story line.

I loved the authentic characters, and the way the locations changed with the different phases of the story. The way dancing, music and even a little bit of Latin were woven into the story offered a really rich experience for the listener, much more than just a 'holiday listen'. Beautifully narrated by Kristin Atherton.

A fresh take on Latin dancing

Star crossed lovers?
Dancing under the stars.
Alf and Letty (both English and both dancers from childhood) meet at an Italian class in Rome.
We travel back in time to discover what brought them there and then forwards to share the consequences.
I loved the walks round Rome, so many familiar places described in such detail. Sights, smells, sounds, lots of tourist information too which was very interesting.
I liked both characters and enjoyed the alternate chapters narrated by each of them.
Family relationships were well told. Lots of variety in the people.
I learned a lot about opera and ballet and Latin which was unexpected.
There was joy, drama, passion, humour, tension and surprise. Well done Kate Eberlen.
My only negative comment is that some of the pronunciation of Italian words was not correct and that jarred my listening pleasure, interrupting the flow of the story. At times I wished I was reading a traditional book rather than listening to an audiobook.

Very lengthy

Narrator was too wooden, but her accents were ok. Enjoyable descriptions of Rome and UK, most characters likeable. A twist not anticipated. Too lengthy but a decent read overall.
