Summary
How far would you go to protect your happy home?
Sara made one promise to herself when she was growing up in foster care: that if she was lucky enough to have a family, she’d always do whatever it took to protect them. Looking around her home with its cozy kitchen and living room, where her energetic teenage daughters and gorgeous 4-year-old son all eat, play and live together, she knows she’d do anything to keep them safe.
So when Sara’s husband Matt loses his job and every shred of his confidence with it, she knows it’s up to her to bring the family back from the brink. Though she doesn’t know where she can possibly find the money they need to keep afloat.
Until her boss offers her a deal. He’ll help out. All she has to do for him is one little favor...
This year’s most gripping psychological thriller - perfect for fans of My Lovely Wife, The Girl on the Train, and Something in the Water.

Heart stopping...
WOW, just WOW!
It is a long time since I have listened to such a gripping book. Just when you THINK you've worked out who has done what (and there's PLENTY of that !) away it goes on another tangent. We all need people we can trust with our lives but most of us don't have to put that trust to the test. My first Rona Halsall novel but it won't be my last x x

Not for me.
Absolutely not for me, but I don't think it's the quality of the writing. I feel the book in itself is fine. The Narration is very good but.....
I couldn't empathise with the leading lady so to speak, far too weak and pathetic. I ended up feeling cross every time I put myself through yet another chapter.

Good read. Gripping from start to finish
I love how this author builds a plot to look like one thing is obviously happening causing reviewers who've not read the whole book to leave reviews sayjng it was obvious or characters are spineless etc when the best twists and turn arounds are generally to be found later in the book towards the end. These are good stories. I thought I'd give them a go despite the bad reviews and I'm glad I did. People may say plots are far fetched. Well isn't any good plot? In order for a plot to get really tho k it might need a bit of stuff to happen that wouldn't normally happen otherwise books would be as boring as our normal Lives.

Poor narration
The story was ok, not memorable but perfectly entertaining. It was let down by the narrator with an over the top ‘hammy’ acting voice.

Unbelievably bad
I can’t believe this book has been compared to others like Gone Girl and Girl on the train. It is juvenile rubbish. Completely unbelievable and naive. I have wasted a number of hours listening to it. Don’t waste yours.

Unidentifiable
Not for me. Another weak and pathetic woman making the worst choices available. I could find no sympathy for this silly woman. Several times I almost gave up in dismay. Glad this book is finished.

Such a dim woman!
The protagonist of this book is the thickest woman alive. It makes for a rather annoying story when at every turn she chooses whichever is the least intelligent course of action available to her. She seems to genuinely think you can owe someone £9000 and “repay your debt” by having dinner with them a couple of times. She leaves the first dinner part way through and still expects to have the initial £9k debt considerably reduced. She wakes up the next day having obviously been roofied and has no idea that being slurringly staggering after two glasses of champagne such that she needs helping into bed and had no recollection of what came after, then waking up the next day with an odd taste in her mouth and no hangover, is in some way out of the ordinary. They never say how the debt does get repaid either. Unless the arch villain just gives it to her, which seems unlikely. Waste of time!
