About this listen
Araminta Elmore is a 67-year-old retired insurance adjustor. She is helpful and always finds herself in the middle of a police investigation.
She has been invited to a piano recital at the Belle Meade home of Arthur and Beatrice Lyons. As she makes her way to the French doors of the drawing room, Araminta suddenly notices a glint in the grass. When she picks this up, it turns out to be a red stone - a real ruby. She shoves it into her bag until after the recital.
Aleta Lyons, who is giving the recital and hoping some of the influential guests will get her a music scholarship, plays half the program before Arthur realizes his wife is missing. At the intermission, he gathers Aleta's tutor, Adrian Byers, and his roommate, Nigel Gates, to search for Bea. It is he himself who finds Bea; however, her body is floating in the ornamental pond at the back of the house. She is wearing her heirloom diamond earrings, but not the necklace Arthur had seen her put on.
How is the red diamond found by Ms. Araminta links to the death?

Entertaining
Ms. Araminta a very observant 67 year old, not much escapes her notice. When she attends a piano recita, she finds a ruby which could be the clue to solve a murder. This is an entertaning story with great characters and an excellent narrator.

Dazzling
This is a fun quick light listen. I did enjoy it but with it only being three hours long, great if you only have a few hours to kill, but I felt Araminta didn't really do any investigating and the mystery just sort of solved its self. I think it would have been better if it was longer and more involved. This is the second book by this author that I have listened to and even though this was interesting I enjoyed she saw bats more mainly because of the unique cause of death and felt this one was slightly disappointing. The plot idea was good and I look forward to see what else the author comes up with next.
While attending a musical recital the mother of the performer is killed and Araminta finds herself caught up in another investigation. Aleta was a sickly child and battled through it all and on the day she should have been able to share her greats triumph with her mother she misses it all and is taken away from her. Araminta unwittingly stumbles over a very big clue before she even knew she had a case to solve when she finds a ruby left laying on the grass. The murdered woman was wearing a very expensive jewellry set but with only half of it taken was robbery really the reason for the death? Was a Jewell thief caught in the act? With all the most likely suspects indoors watching the recital the police must work out the connection between the ruby stone and the missing diamond necklace because Araminta believes there is a connection even if it is buried in the past.
The narrator was okay but the author changed the narrator and I was expecting the same one from the previous book and it took awhile to get use to her laid back voice, so I did speed it up which made the story even shorter.
