About this listen
I am officially a divorcee who is muddling through a midlife crisis. As if being single in my 40s isn't traumatizing enough, my ex tried to kill me, my best friend thinks orcs are coming after us, the town is convinced I'm a witch, and my daughter moved back in with me.
These last few months have been a hectic ride, and the fun isn't over yet. I'm in dire need of a job, so the smart thing would be to apply for some mind-numbing work. Something easy where all you have to do is show up. The bills must be paid. Instead, I've decided to go out on a scary limb and open my own shop.
What was I thinking?
As if I am not stressing enough, I am having a string of horrid luck. Attempted murder. Assault. Vandalism. Someone is trying to mess up my life. And I'm so done with it.
I've been given a second chance. I am on my way to becoming a happier, healthier me, and I am not letting anyone screw that up.
But what am I supposed to do when the line between reality and the impossible starts to blur? Do I see a doctor for medication or begin to accept that, just maybe, magic does exist? And would somebody please find my ex-husband? He's escaped jail and is apparently threatening to kill me again.
Contains mature themes.

Such a stupid stupid woman
I seriously want to shake the MC. How can anybody be that ignorant of danger. I dislike authors treating us readers like we are thick - anybody who is told ‘get in the circle’ would at least get in the circle for a few minutes just in case - not go waltzing through it and out the other side. I almost wish she would get hurt

Fun and feisty book 2
Thoroughly enjoyed this, a great follow on from Half Way There. Eve writes women of a certain age quite realistically, though there are some bits I'd rather not be reminded of :)

A Thrilling Mystery With A Dash Of The Unexplained
I've really enjoyed the Midlife Mulligan books so far. I found them both very easy to read and like the premise. The plot in both books have had enough mystery to keep my Miss Marple tendencies happy. Not everything mysterious is supernatural.
Nicole Poole is a fabulous narrator. I love the pace she reads the book and her skill at drawing out the appropriate emotions for each scene. Nicole has a good variety of voices and accents that she can apply for the different characters. I was never confused who was speaking during scenes with conversations between any number of characters.
I love the concept of the Paranormal Women's Fiction genre. All the female protagonists are over 40yrs old. Woohoo! At last. That's not to say younger women won't enjoy it or connect to her. After all, being single again after a long term relationship ends is tricky for all of us. As is recovering from a toxic relationship and finding yourself again. However, as a menopausal woman within spitting distance of the big 5-0, I loved how true-to-life Naomi's issues were.
I could connect with our protagonist, Naomi, and felt her situation to my core. Although she didn't start off as a traditional badass heroine, On My Way has seen her grow in confidence. I have a feeling that she'll end up being a great badass by the end and exhibit all the traits I love. At times, Naomi's thoughts, stubbornness and actions frustrate me. However, have learned that these traits are very common in women who've been in long term situations like Naomi's.
On My Way is a well balanced story. There's some dry humour, lots of mysteries, a thriller feel as well as relationship threads woven throughout. The story is primarily a second-chance women's fiction with the hint of the supernatural.
On My Way doesn't end on a perilous life-or-death cliffhanger (woo!hoo!). However, there is a teasing interlude and epilogue that dangle a tantalising hook to keep you reading the series. I can't wait to listen to the next one.
