About this listen
Most American Muslims today are descendants of the Africans (many of them Muslims) who came to America in the hulls of slave ships more than 400 year ago and experienced nearly four centuries of perhaps the most heinous system of chattel slavery in the history of mankind - all under the mantle of “American democracy”. Ironically, many of the descendants of those enslaved Africans have embraced American democracy and have been converting (or reverting) in significant numbers to Islam since the early decades of the 20th century. The noted Muslim American thinker and leader W. Deen Mohammed’s life model and teachings are helping many of them to understand the close connection between Islamic and American democracy, thereby giving them the best opportunity to live their most productive life as citizens of America.
On Islam and American Democracy is an articulation of Imam Mohammed’s commentary on why America and its ideal of democracy is the best place in the world today for Muslims to live out the ideals and principles of Islamic democracy as outlined in the holy book of Islam, the Qur’an, and the life and example of the Prophet of Islam, Muhammed, who lived a little more than 1,400 years ago.
