About this listen
Aron Lincoln never meant to take on the role of parent.
He was only 14-years-old.
His job was to be a big brother, one his little brother could learn from - maybe even look up to.
He wasn’t supposed to be the one his brother depended on for protection.
But when their dad walked away, and their mom chose something else over them, Aron was left with no choice.
He made a vow to protect his brother, and it’s a promise he intends to keep.

Beautifully Deep And Tragic
Aron has had to play the adult figure for his younger brother since he was ten years old. His father split, making the decision to never have anything to do with his children ever again. In response, his mother turned to a less than honorable man to help heal. Instead, she wound up becoming addicted to drugs. Dependant on them and the man just to survive. He learned at a young age that he would never be able to fully depend on his mother to take care of him and that his father was never going to be in the picture again. Even though he loved and cared about his little brother and would do anything for him, he resented his mother for forcing him into that role.
This book was very emotionally invoking. Aron is so relatable in so many ways. Especially for those in broken families. I feel like this story gives hope that things can get better. It shows that there are people out in the world that do care. It's just hard to see that with the surroundings that are given. I do wish I had seen more of the story. I wish there were certain parts of the book that really played a stronger role. I could have read and read into the story behind all of this. I also hope that there will be another book with the way this one ended. It would be another point of view, but I would be totally fine with that.
This book was narrated by Justin Mills. I really felt like he did a perfect representation of a kid who's grown up in a broken home. He is talented if he can just swoop right in and take over a personality like that. I would love to hear other books he narrates to see if he completely takes over a character's personality. I'm sure he is. It's either that or he completely relates to the character. There are many of us who can in all honesty. Many of us who were forced to grow up too young. But I digress. My point is I'm impressed.
While I wish this book had been way longer than it was, I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed all of the positive messages that are represented behind the story. The author also puts a lot of powerful and uplifting things at the end of the book as well that had me teary-eyed. There's another book in this series of novellas. I read it and enjoyed it just as much as this one. Actually, I enjoyed it more if I'm being honest. Both were great works though. I can't wait to see if there's news on a third!

Well handled interesting story.
I am never sure with a subject like this whether I should say that I enjoyed the story, but it's so well written and I really felt for the characters and what they were going through, that yes I enjoyed it. Justin Mills did a great job with the narration, it's not easy with so many male voices to keep them distinct but he manages that beautifully. I feel this is sensitively handled but still packs a punch.

Good story!! Too short!
I want to know more!! This was excellent book!! I love Aaron, but he has been through so much in his life and has taken in so much! He takes card of his younger brother when his mother cannot.
If you want a book that will make you think and give you feelings.. this one will do that. My only problem was it was short and I wanted more!! Justin Mills has a very pleasant voice and was very easy to listen too!

Phenomenal!
Gianna Gabriella knows how to catch my attention! This novella had me from the first sentence! Aron takes on the role of protector of his younger brother. Their mother was addicted to drugs and father walked out on them. When things finally broke down, their aunt took them in and gave the two the love they deserved. Will the two be ok? Will they stay with their aunt? Will Aron get back to playing football? Will their life settle and be happy? Realistic, heart breaking and heartwarming, this story had me.
Narrated by Justin Mills, he brought the story all the realism of today’s world. We could see and feel everything these kids went through, making it up close and personal. He did an amazing job.

Not the Same
This book will break your heart in a few different ways, but we do see light at the end of the tunnel in the end of it. I enjoyed listening to this book as the writing and narration was done really well.

Heartbreaking and Inspiring!
Aron is a high school student who is tasked with accepting way more responsibility than anyone should have to at that age. Acting as a father to his younger brother Ethan comes with sacrifices that he is more than willing to pay but even that may not be enough when those he should be able to count on disappoint him once again.
This is a heartbreaking and inspiring story about the relationship between Aron and his brother which is loving, unselfish and knows no bounds. I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook and found that the performance of the narrator was entertaining and had great flow.

Emotional Young Adult Novella
Not the Same by Gianna Gabriela is an emotional young adult novella that I listened to on audio narrated by Justin Mills.
This is the second book of Gianna’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. I loved getting the back story on Aron that leads him to helping Dimah in Not Alone.
Justin did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of his work in the future.
