Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

'My appearance hasn't changed, but my outlook on life and attitude towards it has.

Finding self-acceptance hasn't always been easy. I was abandoned at birth with a facial difference, and as I got older, I began to hate my face and the world I lived in.

Gradually, through trial and error, random moments with strangers, and some tragic haircuts, I've found self-love and happiness.

This book is the story of how I found my way out of difficult times, and how you can do the same.'

Jono Lancaster was born with Treacher Collins Syndrome - a condition that affects facial appearence - and at only two weeks old, he found himself in foster care. In his remarkable story, Jono shares the highs and lows of his journey and how he turned his differences into his greatest strengths.

Inspirational, empowering and moving - this is an extraordinary memoir with a powerful message: you are strong enough to become your own hero. (Cape optional.)

Honest and wise memoir and self help manual in one

To hear this book read by Jono himself is a must. This is an inspirational story of someone with a facial difference who is making a real difference in this world. A biography and self-help manual in one, Jono’s honesty, wonderful northern accent plus the raw emotion in his voice is fabulous. A truly interesting story of a man’s quest to be accepted and loved. Brought a tear to my eye.

Loved it

What a great book, the ups and downs of such an amazing young man who I wish only the best for. A highly recommended read. Jono does a good job of narrating too.

So inspiring

This is a fantastic book. It made me cry and it made me laugh. Jono has made such an impact on me. I will definitely be taking on some of his suggestions and doing the work on myself. I thoroughly recommend this book, I hope that it will inspire anyone who reads it as much as it has inspired me to love myself more

An amazing, beautiful, raw & inspirational book

You’ll laugh and you’ll cry, & your heart will hurt at how our superficial society has taught us to spurn and attack those who don’t have what are considered “good looks”. You’ll be amazed that Jono had the good fortune to be fostered & adopted by the wonder-woman named Jean who did not wear a cape, & how Jono himself learned to cope with bullying & hostility as he grew from childhood into teenage hood, & how mean our Western supposedly “civilised” culture can be towards those who don’t live up to what is considered “normal” perfection. Well done Jono. I have a friend who also has Treacher Collins syndrome, another beautiful person who lives her life with a mixture of fun, grace and dignity. This book should be mandatory reading in all our schools, to help us all become better, more understanding, caring, humane, human beings. You rock, Jono!

Amazing, inspiring and emotional.

Wonderful book.
I bought this in physical form but was enjoying it so much that I wanted to listen while I walked my dogs, so I got the audio book too. I actually feel that listening to Jono tell his story enhanced it.
I cried, I laughed, I cried some more and I thoroughly loved listening to his tale. Jono is a remarkable guy who continues to thrive and grow whilst inspiring us to do the same. The book is honest and raw and hits some really dark topics which are handled with brutal, heart wrenching honesty. It is clear that Jono adores his wonderful mum, who has nurtured him, and continues to do so while he spreads his message of self love to others around the globe. There are tons of self help tips and tricks to enable us to love ourselves and be our own hero and authentic self.
if you want a truly inspiring listen, this book will 100% deliver.

Honest and Inspiring

His life story is not the sad story I was expecting but one of joy and happiness. Not to say he always felt that way or doesn't still have battles today, but his wisdom is beyond his years and is inspirational to anyone willing to listen.

Much unsaid

The story seems a bit choppy. Also, who are we meant to be grateful to?
