Summary
The past is waiting.
Josie Jackson is whisked further into the past, to the era of Vikings and the (almost) eternal winters of Norway. Carter, the mastermind behind her foray through time, reveals that she'll be remaining there for six years - assuming she survives the first winter. To complicate matters, Josie has an unexpected health condition, one that threatens her life more than the frigid cold, Viking raids, and wild animals.
After un-creating Taylor and leaving Batu in the Mongol era, Josie wants nothing to do with any other man, especially not the Viking warrior she's engaged to shortly after dropped into a fjord in front of his village. Not everyone is as he seems in this era, from her reluctant new husband, to the mystic - scorned by the rest of the village - whose futuristic visions are too accurate to be divine, to Carter, the evil genius who's tormented her through three eras of history.
When she finally learns the truth behind why he chose her, she understands too well what the stakes of this game really are.

This series is awesome but...
I am enjoying this series very much and cannot wait for South to become available. However, I have a tiny bit of an issue with the main character even though Ms. Ford has really written these characters well. The description of Josie's surroundings in every era she ends up in, helps you to imagine being there. However, as intuitive as Josie is, how can she remain so naive about things. She is able to sense some things but can't imagine that some things are happening, even though she has seen so much by this point. If the story was not so well written, I would have skipped through several chapters because I cannot bear it when a character is ridiculously obtuse, and sorry, Josie was being just that in all three of the books. Although we are not able to really predict what will happen next in each of these stories, I feel like Josie could have had a little bit more common sense. Ah well, I know my opinion is not popular. I really am loving the stories but can't help to be annoyed or maybe frustrated is a better word, by Josie's lack of common sense.
At any rate, even though this is not a horror movie, the main character behaves like one of those women in one. So, if you are a fan of the female character doing stupid stuff that will get her killed, this story is perfect for you.

An excellent series that keeps getting better!
How does a series start out excellent and then proceed to get better with each subsequent book? That is certainly true for this series!
First off, if you haven't read the first two books in the series... Stop! These books must be read in order to enjoy the full effect of the plot.
Josie was separated from her Mongol husband, Batu and transported to a Viking community. She is absorbed into the community. She arrived pregnant, unbeknownst to her and finds herself married to a Viking warrior willing to adopt her children as his own.
Life in the Viking era is perhaps more challenging than life on the Mongol steppes. Carter is good about placing her with people who come to care for and love Josie. This time is no exception. Josie learns to live in the Viking era but Carter may have further plans for her that probably won't include her children and certainly will not give her any choices.
I loved the adventure in this book which had me on edge several times. I love the sudden twists in the plot that keeps the reader anticipating more. All I can think is that Lizzy Ford has a major challenge ahead as she brings the series to a close with the last book. I am looking forward to it!!
