Summary

He’s assigned to get close to her. She’s an unwitting pawn.

When a notorious human trafficker is set free on a technicality, undercover agent Noah Wolf sets his sights on the cybersecurity expert working for the crime ring. While Mia Milan has a clean record, the inside knowledge she is in possession of could be enough to put her boss permanently behind bars. It’s up to Noah to get close to her and convince her to turn up the state’s evidence. Yet the more he learns about the beautiful tech genius, the more dangerous the case becomes.

Mia Milan was checking items off her bucket list as she drove to Miami after being hired to install security software. Now, she’s caught between her client’s seedy empire and the man desperate to stop human trafficking.

Will the lies destroy any chance for a future? Or will truth prove strong enough to weather the deception?

Sweet romance but had a couple of issues with it..

The Ranger's Chance is a sweet romance story mixed with action and a bit of suspense. Noah is on assignment and has to use an alias, while Mia is not only his assignment but has also faced trust issues with a previous relationship, so the reader can know where this is headed. I felt that the first half of the book was really focused on the physical, and even though their relationship is supposed to be based on all these things they like and get to know about the other, attraction is definitely a huge factor. The second half is more focused on the action, and I actually enjoyed it a bit more, though I always felt like I was dropped in the middle of the story, so I don't know if perhaps I missed the prequel somewhere. Still, I managed to enjoy most of the story and got the hang of most of the names in Noah's team (his siblings at the end, not so much). While the last action scene felt a bit cliche, I definitely felt for Noah's past, and I found Mia's work interesting.

I remembered Liz Krane as a narrator from a previous series by another author that I had enjoyed and thus knew the narration would be good. Now, while she pulled off most of the characters, I had an issue with Ryder's voice, since to me, he sounded like a female most of the time. Still, her performance of the rest of the cast, as well as their emotions, was spot on, and the reader definitely experiences them all (hurt, anger, fear, excitement, and everything in between).

Overall, a sweet romance (passionate kisses) that's recommended for fans of the author, the fake identity trope, or readers who are looking for some action and suspense to be thrown in the mix as well. ~ 4 stars
