Summary

The hilarious and moving story of Christian O'Connell's very public journey from number one to no one.

As a radio DJ in London, Christian O'Connell appeared to have it all.

He held the number-one spot nationally, with a faithful audience of millions who'd listened to him for years. Celebrities flocked to come on his show, and no other radio DJ had won more awards.

But not everything was as it seemed. Minutes before going live one morning, something happened that changed everything and led to a decision of seismic proportions. He quit his job, moved to the other side of the world where no one knew him and took on the toughest radio market in the world - Australia.

Why? Is the question he's been asked every day since landing Down Under. Until now he's never shared the real reason.

No One Listens to Your Dad's Show is the story of Christian risking everything, uprooting his wife, two daughters and his dog to move to Australia. A move that lands him as a complete unknown in a country where, he soon finds out, no one wants to hear him on the radio.

He was failing, 40-something and falling apart. Until he wasn't.

Honest, funny and charming

I used to work with Christian back in his xfm days. He wouldn't know me but he was always lovely to work with as we came up with funny ways to promote his show, mainly for free. This book is just like hearing a friend telling you their honest and often heart breaking story of how a midlife crisis makes you think on what is really important to you. A great listen. Cheers OC

Simply Excellent!

I hadn't known much about Christian before I read this bit was pulled in by the premise. This book really spoke to me in a way I had not anticipated and I loved every second. It's about being brave enough to take the plunge, being brave enough to see and accept yourself. Christian, I doubt you'll ever read this but can I just say how much I needed to hear your story, thank you form the bottom of my heart.

Enjoyable.

This is quite an interesting book. Honest and funny. Read by Christian, I was somewhat distracted by his staccato reading style, regular mid-pronunciations and the weird way he adds an extra syllable to anything ending ‘own’. And PLEASE! ‘something’ does not end in K! But if unlike me, you can ignore all of that, it’s worth listening to.

Honest & humbling read

I’ve listened to Christian on the radio for years (Absolute Radio years) & have always been a big fan of his shows. The honest way he spoke about mental health & how we speak to ourselves has really made me reflect. I’ve already recommended my husband has a read as he deals with self doubt & negative thinking daily. So thank you for writing this book & re-evaluating how I judge myself so harshly.

Where do I start with this book- Uplifting funny and insightful

I remember the day I heard the sad news that Christian was moving to Australia I was gutted. Here was a show that had lifted me everyday for no other reason than it was just a great place to be with genuine people enjoying life and reminding me what life should be about. I had only just found the show 3 months earlier, was addicted and now it was going to be taken away!

So when Christian started the show in Australia I knew it would only be a matter of time before Melbourne got the show as I did.

I was listening to every podcast, every day the and show was actually better than the UK version so as I listened to this book I had no idea things had been so tough.

This book not only conveys Christians struggles in dealing with a life changing time in his life but goes much deeper into how men can be so vulnerable and the importance of doing something about it.

Apart the genuine laugh out loud moments I got so much more from this book as 48 year old man struggling to know if the way I feel is normal. Christian brings this book together beautifully at the end making it truly inspiring.

I hope you get as much from it as I did. You won’t be disappointed!

Regards John H

Thank you for your honesty.

I’m a big fan of Christian. Listened to him every morning on Absolute. He and Ritchie entertained the whole family. It was something precious we shared with our then teenage boys. We all went to see him numerous times doing stand up. Excellent, by the way! Our boys can’t wait to listen to this book too. I binged listening to it over 4 days. Laughed out loud....Mrs Woo!! And cried...found it very moving. Glad you and the family are settling and finding your feet. Wish you all the very best. Thank you.
