About this listen

Eric is a physicist, an angel vivisectionist, and an architect of the future.

He's also an accidental time traveler, stuck in the past and trying to re-create his own future.

Now he's got to save the world for a better tomorrow, but not like everyone does, in general, every day. Oh, no. He has to make a better tomorrow that looks exactly the way he remembers it, or there may be no yesterday, no today, and no Eric!

There is a reason he hates time travel, and it has nothing to do with physics.

Nightlord: Penumbra is the eighth book in the Nightlord series.

A great story with a few tiny issues

overall an amazing book well written well read everything is easy to understand and explained without being boring however it seems like interesting and relatable characters are just discarded from one book to the next which is a bit disappointing

The Saga Continues

The travails of the Nightlotd continue in this, the eighth book in the series and it doesn’t disappoint. Sean Runnette narrates as he has done throughout and he continues to do a masterful job. I’m not usually keen on American narrators/voice actors but Mr. Runnette proves me wrong. The story itself continues uninterrupted from book seven with some good twists (that I will not reveal) that made my stomach lurch. I’m glad that the ‘cliffhanger’ endings of the first three books is no longer evident but leaving the listener keen for the next in the series.

Garon Whited has woven an incredible tale and it now spans over eight books, all of which I cannot recommend highly enough. It’s an amazing epic fantasy story with a difference and it works. Sometimes it can be a little too introspective and Eric can come off as a sad little sap but these episodes are infrequent albeit a tad overlong. That being said, it’s one small negative and considering I’ve bought nine books in the series, not something that has put me off. I look forward to the next part and would recommend the series highly. If you haven’t read/listened to them yet, do it now. You won’t regret it.

Just another beautiful chapter in this arc. I enjoyed every second...

I adore the universe that has been created over the previous seven books I love the main characters humility, his acceptance of who he is and a beautiful insight into the human condition and frailties.... really looking forward to the next installment and secretly hoping this will never end. the story of seems to be part of my life now.

More of the same, love it!

When is the next one out? Not soon enough! This is one of my most favourite series. It won't be for everyone but it is for me.

Just a lot of filler

I’ve seen a lot of reviews saying the same thing after they have finished this novel, the love for the series is there but this was just a whole lot of nothing, even the things that could’ve been interesting later on in the book were never really explored, as a 44 hour long audio book I feel it could’ve been condensed into 2 hours while having the plot of the next one set up just the same, disappointing and does not inspire the same desire to read the next in line as the others have.

A good listen

Although the story is excellent and definitely worth listening to, I think the pacing was a little jarring sometimes. one moment we have excrutiating detail about something the mc is doing that day which isn't particularly interesting, other times several weeks have gone by while the MC 'did a thing' which would have been more interesting to observe. Meanwhile the first 10-20 hours were somewhat less interesting than the last 7 or so. I realise personal taste may vary, but the interplay between characters didn't recieve enough time, while the minute-by-minute description of manufacuring and other busywork was given far too much time.

still, I am still glad to have listened to it and eagerly await the next instalment.

I like the series but.........

I don't mind a long listen, in fact you have to say it's good the author puts the effort in. However this book would be around 20 hours shorter if they cut out all the whining, complaining and general conveyance of the main character's bad mood. I started skipping past his rants about how bad he has it. If I want to hear someone moan endlessly, I'll talk to my other half.
This really does spoil what should be a really good book. I think it's acceptable to mention a character's feeling or emotions occasionally but this was repeating ad nauseam, no variety either, the same gripes. I hope the next book sticks more to the story and less p*ssing and moaning.

Not much happend

The story is a tad tiresome as not much happend. I had to listen to this at 1.2x speed. I still thought it was ok as I like the characters and the universe but it's just so slow.

My favourite series, but .......

I love the series, but this book lacked something. I like to follow the mc through a journey as they meet new characters and listen to them develop along the way . this book was FILLED with a little bit too much self introspection. that said, this is still one of my favourite series, and I hope to hear from Eric for many years to come.
