Oh my
This book really started to make sense at some of the earlier flashbacks in this timeline. You find the truth of the warden, of some of the children. Desperate times call for desperate manners. Lines crossed. This is the sadest book of them so far - the fear and frustration have seen the world gone mad. Where can the nighthawks go now?.....

Series continues strongly
This was an interesting instalment in this series, at times the author seemed to slow the pace down with less happening and then when it picked up again the stuff happening felt more important and impactful, both now and probably in subsequent books too. I would say that this is not an ideal one to jump into as your start to the series, but since the first two are very enjoyable reads you should be reading or listening to them first anyway to appreciate the scope of the series.
The narrator's performance is a good one, clear tones throughout and a suitably distinctive range of tones for the cast help to enhance the story.
Overall, another good instalment in this series and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Bittersweet excitement
This book is full of adventure, soul searching, hope and disappointment. As the Nighthawks are separated and fighting in different locations we find that they are both hopeful and overwhelmed. We get many scenes from the past to illustrate how things came to be and to tell us why people are as they are.
There are many times when we feel disappointment that some of them die and are captured. This book leaves you eager to know how the small group of people are going to manage to overcome the opposition, or will they even be able to survive.
Outstanding book full of people who have super human abilities but also full of human doubt and weakness. The narrator does an outstanding job and is easy to listen to.
