About this listen
Imagine the poets Wallace Stevens and Anne Sexton meet in a bar owned by Michael Robbins. The result might just be News In A New World, the first published collection of poems by Tamara Tifareth. Jarringly profound, hilarious, and offensive, highly topical, always insightful, the poems combine a strong lyrical quality with a narrator's capacity for storytelling. In many of the pieces, Ms. Tifareth assumes a particular type of persona only to push its attitudes to the very limits of sensibility, illustrating the absurdity of the human condition.
The collection includes an afterword (appropriately entitled 'Afterward') written by novelist Emericus Durden, Ms. Tifareth's close friend and confidante, and the man who first discovered her more than a decade ago wandering homeless with a backpack full of poems on the boardwalk of Venice Beach, California.
