Summary

A warm, witty and wise debut about the ups and downs of life as a TV presenter

When Christie Lynch, journalist and single mother of two, appears as a guest on a daytime TV talk show, she could never have imagined that it would lead to a new career. Spotted by hugely successful talent agent, Julia Keen, Christie can't help but be impressed by Julia's charm and stellar client list. And once Julia takes Christie on as a client, Christie's life changes for ever as Julia secures her a high-profile presenting job on a daily chat show.

Christie is immediately thrust into the limelight and, despite the intrusion of the paparazzi in her front garden, she starts to enjoy her new-found wealth and fame. But as her career soars to new heights, her home life starts to suffer when she's forced to spend more and more time away from her children.

Will Christie find a way to balance her role as a mother with her increasingly demanding job? And can she make it in the cut-throat world of entertainment? Whatever happens, Christie's going to give it all she's got…

Slightly predictable

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No, found it hard to listen to due to the speed of the narration.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Pretty predictable

What didn’t you like about Fern Britton’s performance?

unlike her other book I have listen to, it felt like she was in a hurry narrating it. It was on a one way track so I did not feel relaxed to listen to it and I had to stop listening as it was quiet stressful.

If this book were a film would you go see it?

No!

Any additional comments?

I was very disappointed.

slow

perhaps it was because this is not my usual genre to read but I found it very slow to get going and rather clichéd at times and the over use of description became really annoying, did we really need to know detail about a motorway service atation. I won't be re visiting any of Ferns other books . Ferns narration was ok.

New Beginnings

Nicely spoken by Fern who had a very easy to listen to voice. A chick lit which is fine for the beach or those who like this type of reading. Not really my thing but always good to read a variety of books and I did finish it to the predicable end.

ONE OF MY FAVES BOOKS

Absolutely LOVE this book and I love Ferber Britton. This was one of the first books I have listened too st the start of my zGlaucoma n journey. I’m listening to this book again right now. I’ve listened to it more than once and want to know if there’s a sequel. If not, WHY NOT!? Love you Ferne xxxx

Slightly Disappointed 😞

After reading daughters of Cornwall, which is amazing...I was rather disappointed with this book. Very wordy and rushed at the start. The main part off the story was good but spoilt with an abrupt ending.

Characters that get you hooked...

Really enjoyable, much to my surprise. I put off listening to this book thinking that it would be fluffy nonsense! But within the fist chapter I was hooked on the characters. Fern does a great job, you can hear the amusement in her voice while reading.
I can see why commentators asked her when she brought the book out was it based on her life...

A triumph!

Another triumph by our dear Fern! Really enjoy the books she reads herself. Her expressions and lovely soulful voice have really blessed me.
Very sad to see she’s not reading some of her other books for us, a good narrator certainly makes an audiobook.
I hope Fern will consider narrating others.
