Summary
Cadence "Cady" Bloomquist knows two things for sure: First, shelving books at her shop, Nevermore Bookstore, totally counts as cardio. Second, staying late every Thursday night to take a certain mysterious customer's order is not the same as waiting by the phone for some man. Until the calls with the man who identifies himself only as "Fox" last for hours, and become the highlight of her week. Which leaves her to wonder, if his velvet voice can kindle her fire over the phone, what sort of alchemy might it inspire if they met in person?
There's nothing Roman Fawkes wants more than the brilliant, beautiful bookstore owner, but he knows it can never happen. Secreted in his mountain hideaway above sleepy Townsend Harbor, his hermit's existence shields him—and those around him—from the pain of his past. Until one of their weekly calls is interrupted by a break-in, and Fawkes is powerless to protect the woman who has become his one link to the world. Orchestrating a trap for the fool who dared harm her, Fawkes finds himself not just ensnared, but beguiled by her. Now so close to Cady, he discovers she's fallen for "Fox", and yet he's unable to reveal her heart's desire is closer than she thinks. Can Fawkes resist the temptation to get between Cady's covers, knowing they'll never have a happily ever after?
Contains mature themes.

Story Hooked me from the very start ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I loved this book so much, I stayed up until 4am to finish it all in one day! And have already recapped most of it a second time. It will be one I revisit again & again.
Both authors are new to me, as their usual genres appear to be less Contemporary than I go for, I found this book by searching for new releases narrated by Teddy Hamilton, who is a favourite narrator of mine, as is Stella Hunter.
To be clear, this IS a Contemporary Romance & RomCom, which, from reading reviews on Amazon was a surprise to some of the fans of these two authors individually.
It is the start of a series, all of which I hope will come to Audible soon.
There are lots of sassy, laugh out loud moments, some really spicy sections and a truly fantastic, compelling story, centred around Cady & Roman Fawkes, who both live with debilitating conditions. Hers Physical, His Mental. From the very start I was rooting for them to find their HEA. Both narrators were fantastic at bringing them to life, and conveying their hopes and their struggles.
Both Cady & Fawkes, and the supporting characters are incredibly well written and I look forward to listening to & laughing through the rest of the series. Soon I hope! 🙏

Never more Bookstore:was okay
Book wasn’t as good as expected was okay didn’t laugh once didn’t feel like a comedy thought his reasoning for why was staying away would be more valid but just feel silly like he’s just being stupid staying away just for the plot didn’t find the store story good hoped would be good but was so flat and unnecessary too me and i dont like how Cady let herself be treated by the men in the story girl have so respect for yourself I wouldn’t put up with that shit. So its 2.50 rating for me

Different kind of romance
I would call this romance lightly dark and not too sweet. So much story it could have been longer.

I already knew I loved the story but…
this audiobook completely brought Fox and Cady to life! I thought the choice of readers was fantastic (& Vee’s accent was almost perfect too). I felt the warmth of the characters being read perfectly. Most enjoyable? Well it has to be the rent, doesn’t it?!
