Summary
If you thought death was the end...you’d be dead wrong.
Life was barely manageable after my mom was murdered three years ago. I wasn’t sure what my purpose was anymore. But then on my 21st birthday, I drank a little too much and fell from the roof of my nine-story apartment building.
I died. Then...I un-died.
Enter Hayden, my really bossy (and hot) guardian angel whose duty is to train me to be the next “Soldier of Light.”
Sound fun? Well, it’s not. I save dead people, helping them move on to the World of Light. And to make matters even worse, they are all troubled souls stuck in the Dark Realm with the devil and his army of demonic creatures. They roam my city’s streets at night, waiting for me to screw up.
The Afterlife is one of Death’s best kept secrets, and I’m living proof. I’m pretty sure I’m the wrong person for this job, despite what Hayden thinks. Guess I’m stuck saving the dead.

Death isn’t always the end!
Evika’s life was unbearable after her Mother was murdered 3 years ago then on her 21st birthday she drank too much and fell from a high rise building . She died then un-died and Hayden her very bossy guardian angel told her she had a bigger purpose in life to train as a Soldier of Light to lead souls stuck in the dark realm and lead them to the light.
This debut was awesome and I eagerly await volume 2 .

Young Adults /teenage particularly will enjoy the 'beyond death' mixed with judgement, penance, wrath and redemption. Should a soul be punished, or even forgiven ?

Great Listen
I had a lot of fun reading this. the characters have great depth and are entertaining. Hayden has all the great workings of a book boyfriend. the guardian angels are very human in their behaviours.
Evika is interesting, her character was fleshed out really well to very relatable.
narration was great and all in all I'm looking forward to listening to the next book!

A great story, really super for YA and upwards
Ireland Gill has managed to write a 'must read' book for YA teens, using the sort of thought processes on interpreting good vs evil vs. 'paying your penance'. The heroine's impatience with this balance is well justified given her additional gift to read a soul's deeds. The relationship dynamics are well balanced for the YA audience. It did take me 2 chapters to 'relax into the voice'. I found that listening required a slightly faster tempo to pick up the right level of energy of the characters. All voices were very credible, which is a credit to the narrator.

Unique & Second Chance at Life
This was a great redemption story and start to the Soldier of Light Chronicles! After her mother’s death three years ago, Evika has lost her purpose in life and still isn’t sure how to keep continuing on. On her twenty first birthday, she drinks a little too much, falls out if her nine story apartment window, and dies. Hayden, her guardian angel, brings her back to life months later to become the next soldier of light. Together, Hayden and Evika are supposed to free seekers, souls that are imprisoned to Alysto (the devil), that are still evil. This book has an unique and interesting twist of the afterlife, god, heaven, the devil, and hell. I liked that she didn’t automatically accept her new role and that she struggled with it as her journey progressed and she starts seeing things that she never had a desire to see. Evika is selfish and stubborn, but throughout her new life, she finds purpose, more about her family history, and self discovery.
J did a really good job with this narration. I liked the different voices that she used for each character and spoke at a steady pace.

Great story.
I received a free copy of this book for an honest review. I will say its a really long story. The actual story is very detailed and it was good but I felt it was a bit too long. It also seemed to take along time to get anywhere.
Evika's mother died tragically 3 years ago, she's very jaded(and a bit whiny at times) and drinks to forget. She dreams of a man with beautiful green eyes who is actually her guardian angel and after a drunken fall off her apartment's roof she finds out the true purpose of her life. There are angels and monsters and its a story focusing on good and evil. And as I said it's a really good story and the narrator did an excellent job. So much emotion. She was also good at doing the male voices which is sometimes what some narrators just can't master. You'll just need a lot of time to listen to it. Most chapters are around 30 minutes long there's one that's longer than that.

growing up
I loved this book from start to finish! It was very fast paced and did not drag! I saw how Evika struggled everyday with what she was going thru in her life. This book and ton of awesome characters! I loves the story that Ireland put on paper and Elizabeth did a great job bringing it to life and I can't wait to see what happens next
