About this listen
Mystery 1: Pascal Tourret, Private Detective
When Madame Duclos employs Pascale Tourret to help her save her daughter from a life of crime, the investigation takes Pascale from his home in the Lot region of France to the busy streets of Paris. There, he encounters the activities of the underworld and particularly of Maurice Gautier, a man with no scruples.
Deeply entrenched in the drug cartel, Gautier is producing bad methamphetamine that is hitting the streets of Paris with regularity and killing college kids. On top of that, his organization are also importing cocaine from Colombia. Piecing together the movements of cartel is complex and takes Pascal through the streets of Paris, but he is aided by his old colleague from the police department, who is happy to supply him with information to help in the investigation.
With no witness protection program available, how will Pascale get witnesses? How will he overcome the constraints of French law and gain sufficient evidence to put Gautier away? The story follows the progress of his inquiry.
Mystery 2: Pascal Tourret, Private Detective: Beaujolais Nouveau
When an old flame asks for Pascal Tourret's help to find out who has stolen this year's batch of Chateau Trepagnier Beaujolais Nouveau wine, a whole new area of investigation opens up for Tourret.
Accustomed to more violent crime, he takes on the task because he feels that he owes his cousin Hector and Hector's wife, Agnes, a little loyalty. The fantasy of Agnes, his love during his teen years, follows him into the Beaujolais Nouveau area of France, though what he finds isn't what he expects.
The countryside is beautiful, the vineyards clinging to the rocky slopes, as Pascal discovers there is more behind this theft than meets the eye. Is the theft being used as a diversion for another greater crime? Is it casting suspicion on the right people? Who would do this to Hector?
Faced with murder and intrigue, Pascal needs to fight his natural emotional instincts to find the truth that lies behind the request.
