Summary

When a protective young man finds a vicious solution to his troubles, will he save his family or unleash a deadly nightmare?

Brady Bennett can’t shake his guilt. Blaming himself for his dad’s fatal hunting accident seven years prior, the eighteen-year-old doesn’t trust his cruel stepdad and worries for his twin sister. But his suffering takes a strange twist after fleeing into the woods from a nasty school bully, only to see his attacker get ripped to pieces by a savage beast.

Fearing no one will believe his wild story or that they’ll blame him for the boy’s death, Brady sets out to capture the murderous creature and use it for his own ends. And when the monster transforms back into a man desperate to stop the carnage, the teen promises to free him in exchange for one final gory deed.

Will Brady’s plot to take out his enemies spill the blood of innocents?

My Pet Werewolf is a disturbing horror novel. If you like resourceful but flawed heroes, dark themes, and good intentions gone bad, then you’ll be gripped by James Kaine’s merciless tale.

Enjoyable coming of age story with a different take on lycanthropes

This was a difficult book for me to comment on because for the most part I wasn't very engaged, due to my lack of empathy with the main character. I didn't care for him at all and actually I found him very annoying and a know-it-all with the added inconvenience that he liked hunting a lot (which is an activity I abhor completely). I also found some elements of the story highly unlikely which made it less credible to me (I know it's fiction, but sometimes the little details make a difference).

Despite this, the author's writing and the narrator (Christopher Harbour) kept me listening to the audiobook wanting to know where the story would go. I am glad I kept going because the story took an interesting turn in the last part with not only an unexpected twist, but lots of action as well.

Although I didn't sympathise much with the MC, all in all I liked it, and I thought it was a coming of age story with a different take on lycanthropes.

Thank you to the author for the opportunity to listen to it and this is my honest opinion.

I enjoyed the narration of Christopher Harbour

Teenager Brady is over his head in trouble by protecting his twin sister Brandi. Brady tries hard to fix the mistakes he’s made. His dad died, his mom remarried his father's best friend and protect his sister. He finds a man chained up in a cave and says he will release him if he helps him with a few problems. It was a really really good horror book, with twists and turns.

A fantastic werewolf tale

Was able to get through this in a day, the quality of it made it easy. Starting out as a teenage love story of sorts and turning into a shockingly disturbing tale that will keep you gripped until the final word.

My pet werewolf is a fantastic take on the werewolf stories and one you will definitely enjoy if you enjoy any sort of creature feature.

The narrator starts off a little rocky but definitely improves as he settles into the story.

Definitely give this one a go and well done to James Kaine for a greatly written story.

A Must Read

Brady is still getting used to life without his father after an accident ended his life, and his mother weirdly hooks up with his father's best friend afterwards. Although his mother seems a bit distant, Brady is extremely close to his twin sister. One day, in defending his sister's honour, he gets into an altercation with the local ruffian and they end up running into the woods. Just as Brady is about to defend himself, a werewolf snatches the boy up and tears him to shreds. After Brady gets over the unbelievable shock of what's happened, he realizes the werewolf is trapped.....and Brady has plans for him.

This book was amazing, I absolutely loved it! I only meant to start off reading a few chapters, but Kaine kept amping it up, raising the bar, and my eyes kept getting bigger & bigger from all the shocking 'WTF' moments. It was impossible to put down and I ended up reading it all in one sitting. I wasn't such a fan of the narrator though.

Brilliantly written and one of the best werewolf books I've read in a long time, I highly recommend it.

Howl with Delight: An Immersive Experience

I was delighted to discover that this book also has an audiobook version, expertly narrated by Christopher Harbour. Listening to the Audible version while reading along enhanced my immersion in the story, and I felt his voice perfectly matched the character. Christopher’s clear pronunciation ensured that every word was easily understood, preventing any fatigue or confusion. His dynamic range of emotions effectively conveyed the complex feelings of the characters and situations throughout the narrative. I appreciated the distinct voices he used for each character, making it easy to identify who was speaking. Additionally, his use of a more childlike voice for certain characters in early scenes added depth. However, I believe that incorporating some background music or sound effects could have further enriched this audiobook experience by creating a more atmospheric setting and enhancing emotional engagement without overshadowing the narration.
