About this listen
This is a fun audiobook about a Hispanic family in the 60's living in the Pacoima area of Southern California. They own the Peace of the Shepherd Funeral Home close to San Fernando, which allows for some crazy events. The story is presented through the eyes of Lita Ramirez. Al Lucero is her biggest "pain in the ass", but she tolerates his better than everyone's else attitude, and takes joy in his demise. Raul, Lita's brother, acts as her protector, and is famous for his tootsie roll tosses. Abuella Sophia is a loving grandma that has a bad habit or two. There are good bar incidents from the Palomino Bar and the Hollywood crew. There are great 60's locations and histories in the audiobook, including the hippie insanity of the 60's in Topanga Canyon.
