Summary

Ever hear of someone celebrating New Year’s Eve by committing murder? Well, it happened, and the killer is looking for DeeDee!

That’s the situation DeeDee found herself in after the very successful New Year’s Eve party she catered for Dana, the popular hostess of a Seattle television entertainment show. The party quickly became a distant memory when Dana was found murdered near her pool house. It didn’t help that the murderer was certain they’d been spotted by DeeDee, and she could identify the killer.

It becomes a race against time to see if Al, her Mafia bodyguard, can find the murderer before DeeDee becomes the next victim. Fortunately, her estranged boyfriend, Jake, and her loyal husky, Balto, are there to help Al, but will it be enough?

This is the fourth book in the popular Northwest Cozy Mystery Series by a two-time USA Today best-selling Author.

New year, new murder investigation

I enjoyed this book. There is a lot of drama packed into the story with the two main characters having a disagreement but that actually worked well for the plot because it meant Al the ex Mob boss's bodyguard (who we meet in the previous book) could play a bigger role in this investigation. He is such a tough guy but one with a big heart that makes it so much fun, especially as you can picture him getting dragged in for a manicure. The mystery was good and kept me guessing. It was just a good who done it type of mystery told by multiple characters. The type of story that plays well as a film on the hallmark channel.
DeeDee finds herself working a New Years eve party as a cater instead of spending it with her boyfriend Jake. In fact the party is the reason the two of them have split up. So the last thing she wants to happen is to wake up the next morning to the news that she might be the only witnesses to the man fleeing the house after he just killed the hostess. DeeDee can't identify him but the threatening note left on her car proves the killer thinks otherwise. Will a gun and a dog be enough protection? Ex boy friend Jake doesn't think so but he also knows that DeeDee won't let him be her knight in shinning armour. So he and her sister back a plan to keep her safe, by hiring Al De Duca to help, a retired enforcer for the mob, who might be afraid of spiders but knows how to get the job done. Can be keep DeeDee safe? Especially as DeeDee is trying to protect herself by looking into the murder.
I like the narrator. She does a good job with the characters voices and helps recreate the story in front of your eyes.
