Summary
Life doesn't always go according to plan. For ex-CIA Agent Samuel Caulfield, his plans were ripped out from under him after a chance encounter in a firefight.
One deal with a dark goddess later, and he's cast into the trenches of a Victorian world, with clashing empires, Elves, Dwarves, Dragons, and more. Surrounded by death, on the front lines of a war without intelligence, he'll have to rely on his wits, his platoon, and a surprise gift from his goddess.
Will all that he's been given be enough to overcome the plots and machinations of those that oppose him?

Great world and equally great characters, a strong into into this world and has incredible potential for a quality series.
Highly looking forward to the next addition!

Best first book to a new series this Year!
This was probably one the best audiobook I've listened to this year and that's saying something due to the number of audiobook I've listened recently and this beginning A. D. Krabis first novel so, here hoping we get a continuation in the imminently near future.
Sam is an EX-CIA Agent who goes after the man that kills his wife. After killing the target he attempts to escape the scene with a woman he help during his escape, The following morning in an attempt to leave the city they are pursued and severely injured. Moments before their deaths, the woman tells Sam to swear his soul to a goddess who will offer him a job in a new world. Sam find himself's in land with Victorian-era technology as well as magic, in the body of an Lieutenant of a platoon for the native Kingdom. A neighbouring nation is attempting to invade and sam and his platoon are ordered to the front to hold a pass whilst significantly outnumbered.
Melanie Hastings is amazing as always & is one of the best narrators in genre and if your a fan of Amber Lee Connors you'll love her work as the have a similar voice set.

Very good
From killing his wife's murderer to defending a kingdom.
I would say more, but it would spoil to much. I can only recommend it.

A war story with an MC that feels real
At my request I received a copy of this audiobook in order to give a fair and unbiased review.
Genre: Fantasy Isekai war story with harem
Power dynamics in harem: Girls desire and respect MC. MC is their officer and they must follow his commands.
Explicit/adult material: Explicit. Not frequent. Story is focus.
Summary:
Moved by a Goddess to a world at war with more women than men. Sam must save the child who's prayer his goddess send him to respond to. And save a town from what could be a terrible massacre.
Narration:
Voice diversity: Despite the single narration the voice diversity was excellent and characters are easily recognisable
Pacing and intonation: Well done. The story is engaging and time flew by as I was listening.
Sex scenes: Well done.
Overall: 5 / 5 stars.
The book’s strengths.
- The MC feels like a real person. The use of military jargon was convincing to me (though admittedly I don't know much about weapons).
- The writing. The conflicts are very well written. The pacing of both the book and each conflict works naturally.
- The girls are diverse and interesting. I struggle to find a favourite. They each have their own reasons why they want the MC and they each have distinct personalities and quirks.
- Great narration
The book’s weaknesses.
- I hope to see the girls to have goals of their own outside of just the MC.
Overall: 5/5 stars
A strong first book in a series, let alone from an author. This does not feel like a debut. I will be following this one!
