About this listen
This short steampunky adventure with a flavour of thirties movie serials was inspired by a Twitter conversation the author had with singer Thea Gilmore in early 2013, and then by her song "Start As We Mean To Go On". As the story progressed, other Thea songs lent their titles easily to the remaining three episodes, and more song titles found their way into the text. The name "Moth Girl' came out of an anagram of Thea's name in fact Ratporchrico's opening phrase in this story is that very anagram.

Absolutely Wonderful
This is NOT your Nana's dystopian steampunk!
although short, Moth Girl is an absolute PEACH of a story, set in a wonderfully grimy and pragmatic world. Thea (Moth Girl) is the kind of heroine I'd love to chat with over coffee; sensible, brave, marginally potty-mouthed...
listening to this, I was literally gasping aloud, as well as cackling, snorting, and DON'T STOP THERE-ing. The ending came out of nowhere, yet was utterly right.
I can only recommend this little gem, and fervently hope for more in the future. Pretty please.

I want more!
I could see the story playing in my head, like an animated film (Nightmare before Christmas style).
The touches of humour made me giggle, and tears sprang to my eyes at the end.
My only criticism? I wanted to know more about the characters and their motivations. There was mystery that was never cleared up. Could so easily have been double the length, without becoming in the least bit dull.
Oh and one other thing, would have preferred a British reader, I felt Matt Thurston got some of the intonation a bit wrong, however his characterisations were great.

A fun short story
What did you like most about Moth Girl Versus the Bats?
I enjoyed the fun and lighthearted approach to the story - particularly liked the Auto Minions!
What aspect of Matt Thurston’s performance might you have changed?
I found the narrater hard to tune into, and unfortunately made me lose focus on the story from time to time.
I appreciate everyone has different preferences when it comes to narrator, but Matt just isn't for me.

Very engaging
What about Matt Thurston’s performance did you like?
I found Matt Thurston really easy to listen to and particularly liked his different character voices.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It isn't a long book, and is very engaging, so I could have easily listened to it in one sitting if real life hadn't kept imposing. Damn real life!
Any additional comments?
The characters were well-realised and the dialogue laugh out loud funny. I would repeat the funniest lines here but, no spoilers.
