È l'inizio della sua vita nuova, la vita che a sera, a casa, in una casa vuota per l'assenza del padre e per la malattia della madre, il ragazzo va scrivendo su una bobina di carta avuta in regalo dal tipografo di Montedidio.
Ha anche un altro regalo, che porta sempre con sé, un "bùmeran", un legno nato per volare che il padre ebbe a sua volta da un marinaio di passaggio. Così passano i giorni: Mast'Errico gli insegna il mestiere e Don Rafaniello, uno scarparo che Mast'Errico tiene ospite a bottega, gli insegna a pensare sugli uomini e sulle cose.

Bella scrittura

Bel libro, scritto molto bene. Sarebbe stato interessante, se fosse stato un po' più lungo, per vedere lo sviluppo dei personaggi. Poetico.
