About this listen

When Mona Lisa Cicciarelli is left at the altar by Joey and his overbearing mother, Alice, Mona Lisa wonders what will be worse - the pitying stares from her friends and family or her parents' renewed obsession with the age of her ovaries and impending spinsterhood. Her father, Chick, tries to fix her up the day after she is jilted with the handsome, Italian-Catholic Dante Coletti, and it's then that Mona Lisa realizes her sanity is at risk. She needs to make a big change, and when she's offered a job opportunity in Atlanta, she consults Noni, her eccentric grandmother - and closest confidante - who gives her the push she needs.

Despite Chick's protests that she is abandoning the family, Mona Lisa escapes to the South, where she moves in with overly compassionate Southern belle roommate Brightleigh and sarcastic New York transplant Amy. She enjoys the South, but her social life is a series of disasters, and Mona Lisa wonders if she will ever live happily married after.

Easy listening romance

Some funny moments but all in all, an easy read.

Accents are somewhat challenging to listen to but if you see past it, it’s a predictable life story but one I just kept listening to 😍

Enjoyed it

I almost passed by this book I'm not sure why I think it was maybe the book cover picture idk
anyway as it was in the plus catalogue I thought I'd give it a go and I'm so happy I did!

it's such a nice story, no explicit content just a sweet love story, I did think it ended a bit abruptly but that's just my opinion.

I was chuckling along at some points because even though I'm not jewish/Italian I got really immersed in the story and could picture every scene in my head as it unfolded, which to me goes to show what a good book can do

Not the best

If you have absolutely nothing else to do or listen to, this is your book! Story way too long for content, narrators voice definitely not my favourite, definitely grinds after a while…

Hilarious, quirky feel good entertainment

Super study of family dynamics … all the characters were interesting even the infuriating parents. The romance was nicely done. My only complaint was that the novel was a bit long and lost its way a little in the middle section.

Thanks a great plus catalogue novel and i will look out for more from this author

Great story

Loved it. The warmth of the Italien family and the humour. Nice to have a story without sex

too much

Too frenetic for me and the American narrator grated on me. Couldn't continue past 1st chapter
