About this listen
Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year.
Jayne Frost is a lot of things. Winter elf, Jack Frost's daughter, Santa Claus' niece, heir to the Winter Throne, and now private investigator. Sort of.
When Lark Bramble, an old frenemy, shows up in Nocturne Falls, Jayne finds herself reliving the painful past and trying to make responsible decisions that won’t mess up her future. But being an adult proves harder than she thought.
Finally at peace with where things stand between her and Lark, Jayne thinks everything’s cool until a chilling event at the Black and Orange Ball shatters that peace and puts Jayne at odds with the powers that be. She knows she’s on thin ice, but she’s determined to crack the caper.
Can Jayne find a way to right the wrongs she might have caused, or will she forever bear the guilt of allowing herself to be snowed again?

Another fabulous visit to Nocturne Falls
I have previously done a few reviews based on the books set in Nocturne Falls but here’s a quick recap of the place… Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year. It was set up by the Vampire family the Ellingham’s (Initially Grandmother Elanora Ellingham, and her 3 grandsons) so that supernaturals could live in their true forms, all the while convincing the ‘norms’ (normal magic free people) that it is all an elaborately set, quirky, tourist trap. Thus, the town makes money, the ‘supers’ have jobs and the general public adore the place.
Miss Frost Cracks a Caper is our 4th visit to Nocturne Falls through the eyes of Jayne Frost. She is no ordinary shop keeper. Winter elf, Jack Frost’s daughter, Santa Claus’s niece, heir to the Winter Throne. Even in a town that was set up by Vampires and inhabited by all sorts of supernaturals she stands out.
Ok, now to this installment set Nocturne Falls…
Lark Bramble is Jayne’s ex-best friend from college (Their friendship ended when Lark broke up Jayne’s relationship then tried to seduce the poor man/Summer Elf for herself.) Jayne is beyond shocked when Lark walks into Jayne’s shop ‘Santa’s Workshop’ (it’s a family business) and want’s to take Jayne out for lunch and to talk.
It turns out that Lark wants to do more than ‘talk.’ Lark is a well known DJ and has the opportunity to provide the entertainment at Nocturne Falls greatest party of the year hosted by Elanora Ellingham, The Black and Orange Ball and wants to smooth things over with Jayne.
The ball is always an extravaganza but this year Elanora Ellingham will be debuting an outstanding piece of jewellery. A necklace set with a one of a kind, perfect pink diamond.
I’ve given you enough details and they are not spoilers but from here on spoilers could happen so I will end the story insight with.. An elaborate theft of all the most precious jewels happens at the ball and it is done using Winter Elf magic. Jayne, despite being told by the Sheriff to relax and let him investigate is never one to shy away from an investigation, especially when she gave the go ahead for Elanora to hire Lark (a Winter Elf)
This story has so much going for it. The plot is strong, the characters are colourful, interesting and fun, and there is plenty of romance and drama. Despite the obvious suspect there is still plenty of doubts, mystery and intrigue. The final outcome was one that I did not see coming. All in all this is a truly super Supernatural Cosy Mystery.
The narration by Hollis McCarthy is not only outstanding throughout this book but throughout the whole Jayne Frost series. As there are recurring characters she has to get those voices spot on throughout the series and she nails it! Her narration expresses the mood and personalities of the characters that she is portraying and such consistency throughout a series is a sign of her immense talent!

Another Excellent Jayne Frost Mystery.
This series continues to delight and entertain. It's much my preferred form of Nocturne Falls fix, so long may it continue.

Excellent!
Loved this book, although parts were bittersweet, like with Cooper getting bad news about his mum and he and Jayne breaking up (even if he said it was just temporary) because I still kind of like him and Jayne as a couple. Wasn't as sad about Greyson and Jayne though because as much as I love Greyson (and I do!) I never really saw him and Jayne as a couple, I think it shows in this book giving how different his and Coopers reasons for leaving town and missing the Black & Orange ball were.
I really like Sin although I'm reserving judgement for a book or too as he kind of seems a little too good to be true! So far though he does actually seem well matched to Jayne and she seems to have fallen quite hard for him already! I feel bad for Cooper though, if he and Jayne aren't going to be together as a couple, I hope he finds his perfect match as well, Greyson too!
Wasn't too surprised about Lark though, although she put on a good show for Jayne.
Can't wait for the next book!
