About this listen

Written by a highly respected fitness journalist, Mindful Running offers an engaging and highly practical guide to how mindfulness can both optimise sporting performance and improve general health.

The benefits of mindfulness for general well-being have been discussed extensively, but little has been written about how mindfulness can be applied to running. In this book, leading health and fitness journalist Mackenzie L. Havey explores how combining mindfulness with running can not only improve sporting performance but can also enhance overall health. Through easy-to-understand explanations, Mindful Running reveals how runners can benefit from meditative practices and positive thinking and how the rhythmic breathing, physical effort and focus on training can aid mindfulness. This in turn can help prevent injuries, enhance personal bests and improve the runner's psychological strength and life balance.

Havey's grounded approach to the subject takes the user through a series of straightforward but effective exercises designed to increase self-awareness, develop concentration and improve endurance. With clear explanations of the physiological and psychological processes, supported by anecdotes and expert contributions from athletes, coaches and sport scientists, this book is an inspiring and invaluable guide for runners of all levels.

Enlightening

I heard mindful running from a friend and found this one.
There are lots of good techniques in the book which I've found easy to apply already in my running and it's really revived my enjoyment of running as I begin another comeback from a layoff.
There are many anecdotal stories which to me after a while I began to find a little tedious and somewhat irrelevant as I was more interested in the techniques.
Elocution and clarity was pretty good but the pace at times was very fast and I found myself repeating snippets many times to catch the key points.
But overall I have found this to be really useful

wasn't a terrible book.

Narrator was good but the content is rather dull. Plus it finishes quite abruptly.

Helpful

This book is easy to listen, pretty straightforward. Mindfulness is great to practice and for people who are unfamiliar with it this book will be helpful.

Surprisingly good

Packed with insights and factual information which was fascinating and some of which I have added to my runs.

collection of anecdotes

The narrator was good, engaging voice and not monotone. However I didn't get much from the actual content of the book as it was mostly a collection of anecdotes. Maybe there's the odd tip I can take away from this, but I'm finding it challenging! Maybe a read of the pdf can be of use.

Too fast

Couldn’t be mindful at this garbled pace, would not recommend. Needs a soothing voice not a harsh fast rant
