About this listen

Vienna, 1904.

The body of a man is discovered in an abandoned piano factory on the outskirts of the city. Detective Inspector Oskar Rheinhardt calls on his good friend Doctor Max Lieberman to assist in an investigation that draws them both into the unconventional world of fringe political activism. An appalling act of terror has been planned, and Rheinhardt must hope that Liebermann, with his profound knowledge of psychology and science, will be able to prevent the coming catastrophe.

An absolutely brilliant book full òf fascinating grotesque characters. I highly recommend it. Our heros investigate the seedy underbelly of turn of the century Vienna after a body is found tortured and disfigured. The narrator is perfect for the role . We encounter anarchists and royalty as well as the mysterious and sinister Mephistophales along the way.......

Another good story from Frank Tallis. Reading was OK but narrator managed limited different voices. Main characters are distinctive but sone lesser voices sound the same. Bad production with extra takes edited in with poor balance sounding very odd.

Good story, poor production

I do hope this isn't the last Liebermann story although I suspect it might be. Max and Oscar are investigating the murky underworld of anarchists and uncover a plot to plant a bomb. Unfortunately they don't know where or when. Their efforts are hampered by the intervention of the Intelligence Service but luckily they don't let that stop them. I've really enjoyed this series for the most part and if this is the final book it is a fitting end to an excellent series

Tallis at his inimitable best

Intellectual without being dull. I was fully engrossed from the beginning. Narration was excellent. Ah Vienna.

I wish I had discovered these books earlier.
