About this listen

The second instalment of Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s best-selling The Schools of Dune trilogy.

Gilbertus Albans has founded the Mentat School, a place where humans can learn the efficient techniques of thinking machines. But Gilbertus walks an uneasy line between his own convictions and compromises in order to survive the Butlerian fanatics, led by the madman Manford Torondo and his Swordmaster Anari Idaho.

Mother Superior Raquella attempts to rebuild her Sisterhood School on Wallach IX, with her most talented and ambitious student, Valya Harkonnen...who also has another goal - to exact revenge on Vorian Atreides, the legendary hero of the Jihad, whom she blames for her family's downfall.

The Mentats, the Navigators and the Sisterhood all strive to improve the human race but know that as Butlerian fanaticism grows stronger, the battle will be to choose the path of humanity's future - whether to embrace civilisation or to plunge into an endless dark age.

Another excellent Dune story.

You're hard pressed to find better authors.

A fantastic story with such an arch, but well written across all three books. So many characters across so many years. But the pace is perfect, I'd read the books, but could stop listening.

Excellent narration and characterization by Scott Brick.

Great instalment

Another great instalment in the series. Great to see that even though there are so many books the quality still persists

Walking a razors edge

This book manages to keep you in suspense and loathing throughout, with characters that show real depth and presenting extreme positions on either side as flawed. As always, Scott Brick brings real emotion to each character, and widely varying voice for each narrative.

Scott Brick, fantastic as always.

Another excellent edition to the collection! Couple of continuity errors but it’s forgivable. On to the next one immediately.

I am totally immersed in the mentant/sisterhood story. I hope Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson keep on writing as they are my favourite science fiction writers. Great narrator. love all their books.
