About this listen

An elegant rendering of the great mystic's thoughts on the mysteries of the authentic life.

This is a little book about soul freedom. It is a book about discovering the secret to all the things we most desire: contentment, meaning, peace of mind, and true freedom. This skillfully edited translation of selections from the writings of Meister Eckhart (c. 1260-1328) provides a road map to the spiritual life for contemporary seekers. Eckhart takes us on a journey of discovery, a journey in which we learn to let go, relinquish our need to know everything, and lose those things that we think are important for a life of worth. And in the end he shows us that the true secret is this: to find yourself, you must lose yourself.

Here is timeless wisdom from a medieval mystic who has influenced a wide range of spiritual teachers and mystics both inside and outside the Christian tradition. Erich Fromm, Arthur Schopenhauer, Dag Hammarskjold, Eckhart Tolle, Richard Rohr, D. T. Suzuki, Rudolf Steiner, and Matthew Fox have all credited Eckhart as being an important influence on their thought. In addition, his work has influenced the development of 20th-century American Buddhism and the Theosophical tradition.

This book, divided into five sections - "Seeking the Light", "Facing Darkness", "Risking Love", "Knowing Nothing", and "Embracing Everything" - leads listeners on the path to an authentic spiritual life.

Ace mystical poetry

Lovely to dip in to or just let play to get the contours of Eckhart's mystical experience and message. We need it in these dreary and anxious and polarised times.

content good but narrator sounded too digital

given this is a book about a music, poet, theologien and philosopher, I found the person selected to read seemed very dry and annoying voice tone....so much so that I could not continue listening.

A book about seeing God in everything

My first experience of Eckhart's work. What stood out what that where many other great mystics and teachers of spirituality dwell on the multi-layered complexities of incarnated life, the pitfalls of the mind and sense and our identification with the egoic self Eckhart's work focusses almost entirely on God and the fact that the source is present in everything everywhere always. We are it as is absolutely everything that we see and encounter and everything that we don't. And while that can be a complicated idea to accept once one does there lies within it a wonderful simplicity. It's delivered in bitesize chunks and serves as a perfect introduction to this magical teacher's work.

Worth reading Tolle first

Meister Eckhart was enlightened, I don’t think I can rate his words. However, I’d suggest reading Eckhart Tolle before this as it makes it much easier to understand.

Great stuff!!!

Having attended a day seminar of Mark Burrows it is a real delight to find something that is so authentically himself. The meditative poetry is simple and profound and iris a service to present the essence of such a complex and prolix spiritual master.

eckhart tolle brought me here, and I'm glad he did

Eckhart Tolle, one of the most influential spiritual teachers of our time, was inspired by meister eckhart so much that he changed his name in honor of his teachings, after listening I can understand why.

Jewels of deep wisdom

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and started listening to it once again as soon as I finished. Deep wisdom written centuries ago touched me deeply and spoke like it was written yesterday.
The voice and intonation of narrator is just right for such text as it sounds objective.
Very very pleased I discovered this book somehow. Thank you 🙏🏻
