About this listen
Bio-tech aliens battle Mechs built by humans! After centuries in stasis, a lost task force returns home. Arriving from the infinite void, the surviving ships discover that the Imperium lies in ruin. The Homeworld itself is destroyed, and nothing lives in the Ancestral System except an infestation of unknown bipedal beings - creatures soft, red of blood and warm of flesh.... When you colonize a planet, make sure the owners aren't coming back.
MECH is the story of a new Earth colony built upon the ancient Homeworld of a civilization presumed (incorrectly) to be long dead. MECH is a full novel, 90,000 words in length, by best-selling author B. V. Larson.

great story once you're past the gore!
There is an innovative plot and great character development. You may even find yourself empathising with the gross aliens! The only drawback from my perspective was the author trying to convince us just how bad the human 'baddies' are by recounting the injuries they inflict on innocents in graphic detail. This is near the start and makes for uncomfortable listening, but push thru because the story is worth it.

Great story
Enjoyable book but I did get lost in some of the plot twists and had to use the rewind button on several occasions. However, that could have been caused by me grappling with new characters.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the book and I will be moving onto Mech 2 next.

Good
Took a while to get into but by the end it was excellent. I had previously read other books by the author including the Star Force series and I had an immediate connection to the characters and I cared about the story. with this book I didn't and if I hadn't had respect for Larssons other work I probably would have given up. But I am glad I persisted as by half way through I was hooked. I also found the narration a little odd, ie not very natural with sentence pauses in the wrong places. In the end I either got used to it or the narration got better.

Ok but not great
BV Larson has done some cracking novels, but this one took a long time to get in to. This may have been due to the narrator, who was a bit limited compared to other people who have narrated other series of Larson's. All in all, I would recommend the story, but Undying Mercenaries is a much better series.

Great story - narration took time to get used to
This is one of the best stories from Larson, really enjoyed it and looking fwd to the next saga.
The narration took me some time to get used to - I struggled at the start to understand everything but I got used to it at the end

Gave uo
The story is little poor and quite confusing, parts of which idon't make much sense. The biggest problem however, is the narration. The delivery is wooden and half the characters sound like idiots. This makes it very difficult to get into the story.

I give up
One of the few books I gave up on.
Did not like the reader, too bombastic.
The story is confusing, many characters and ideas thrown in too fast. Reminded me of the Algebraist a little but much worse.
Give it a try, you may get over the bad start.
