About this listen

A hot-blooded new story written by the New York Times best-selling author of Call Me By Your Name and performed by Mamie Gummer (The Good Wife, True Detective).

Mariana has just arrived at the Academy in Italy, where she will spend the next few months on fellowship. That night, over dinner with the other fellows, she meets Itamar. He is handsome and charismatic, and a known Lothario. Although she is aware that an affair with this man may not end well for her, Mariana finds herself falling for Itamar nonetheless. When he abruptly leaves her, Mariana is unmoored. Intent on not giving Itamar the satisfaction of knowing he has destroyed her, Mariana must present a cool façade, until a chance encounter with him in public threatens to leave her completely undone.

By turns incisive and scathing, Mariana is at once a keen psychological portrait and a gripping story of a scorned lover’s descent into despair and rage.

This was great!

I saw reviews about this being really depressing but, have we not read other Andre Aciman books? He’s always showing different sides and aspects of love. This woman is obsessive yes, but she’s not inauthentic, nor are we supposed to condone her behaviour. This story is very captivating though. I loved it personally

Dreadful

Depressing a woman obsessed about a man who only wanted her fur sex in my opinion very sad wouldn’t recommend if you want an uplifting read

Depressing

1 hour and 37 minutes audio of an obsessive woman who has no idea of the concept of 'No Contact' when a relationship ends. I wanted to shake some sense into her and tell her to get over it and do something more constructive with her time and thoughts - 'Otherwise you're in danger of turning into a manic depressive stalker' I wanted to tell her.
I had no sympathy - we've all loved and lost and moved on from self obsession - very quickly in some cases. This short story validates unhealthy behavior when in fact this woman is mentally ill and needs help.
