About this listen
Imagine how different your life would be if you could spot the manipulation tactics people use against you and know the influence and persuasion techniques to defend against it.
Almost every person will suffer some form of manipulative behavior at some stage in their life, it's unavoidable. Whether it's an overt form of intimidation and bullying in the workplace or more subtle covert manipulation within a relationship. It's much more prevalent than you think. But most people aren't equipped with the right observation strategies to pick-up on it, or the right mental make-up to deal with it.
Katherine Chambers is an ex Stanford Psychologist who specializes in all forms of neuroscientific and psychotherapy subjects. However, it wasn't until she left college life and entered the "real world" that she started to understand these theoretical topics in a practical sense. Over the past 15 years she has built a multi-six-figure consulting business and a family of her own. But it wasn't all plain sailing; she has gone through more than her fair share of manipulative relationships along the way.
In this insightful and functional book, Chambers gives listeners a firsthand look into the scientific subjects she studied within academia as well as a practical real life guide on how to:
- Spot covert manipulation occurring
- Understand why people do what they do
- Identify the warning signs that you are being manipulated
- Develop practical persuasion and influence techniques to defend against it
- Master the mechanics of verbal and non-verbal communication
- Deal with manipulation in any relationship
- Raise your overall confidence and self-esteem to immunize yourself going forward

Well explained
I'm so glad I came across this book. It is written in the perfect way for someone going through the painful healing process of emotional abuse. By the end, it felt like the author was sitting beside me, holding my hand as he spoke to me. I would even recommend it to people who have not experienced abuse, because everyone should be aware of the harm inflicted by the evil discussed in this book.

Excellent!
This book is an absolutely excellent description and beautifully explained how a psychopath clothes empathy to love them and then toys with them until they get bored and rubbish them. The three phases of the relationship which a psychopath builds with empathy-idealsaiton, devaluation, discard-are very well laid out.

Very helpful!
My daughter is working to escape one of these relationships and her therapist suggested listening this book. It was very helpful to better understand where she’s been and how to help with the future.

Very helpful!
Outstanding book--helped me understand my mentally ill loved one much better. Also helped me forgive myself--I actually handled various situations properly in the past, just didn't realize it. The behaviors have traumatic effects on others, the patterns are not going to change, and you have to take care of you. Big hug to the author!

Well described!
I listened it in one night, I just couldn't put it down. I've listened a number of books about Manipulation, sociopaths and narcissists since my relationship ended, and this one has been, by far, the most accurate and helpful.

Fascinating listen
FABULOUS book... Someone actually understood from MY perspective what I am going through. AND, MOST importantly, I CAN get out of this, I WILL, and this experience will make me so much wiser and grateful for the true, loving, reciprocal relationship in my life. Thank you for writing this book!

Found very useful
This is one of the most profound books I have ever listened. I found the words to be stark truth. I saw how I had been subject to abuse a lot in my life. I found my boundaries. The last chapter everything about my entire life dropped in and every single thing made sense. Phenomenal for that to occur. I often wonder if this book will be the ultimate marker in my life. My gratitude is immeasurable.

Extremely helpful
This is a very veritable book. What's ironic is that a psychopath who took them to this book has possibly already affected the majority of people listening to this. Hopefully this book will give you insight into how a narcissist (i.e. love bombing is the biggest clue) should be spotted and how to protect yourself. The biggest key to getting to know someone is to go slow.

Awesome audible
Awesome audible. It will help you feel hopeful again knowing that your situation is not unique and that there is healing, growth and a better understanding of yourself after an abusive relationship. I'm sure I'll listen it again, if not several times more.
