About this listen

Fans of YA fantasy now have a new story to capture their imagination, Maggie MacCormack and the Witches’ Wheel. This gripping novel of magic and mystery, with an environmentalist twist, is the first in a new series by author Kaja Blackley.

Maggie is a ginger-haired, 12-year-old orphan who has been passed from one foster family to the next all of her life. She never knows where she’ll end up, so she’s become suspicious and independent, scrappy and resourceful.

As the story begins, Maggie is yet again placed into foster care - this time into a much more welcoming family. But Maggie can’t shake the feeling that something is a bit irregular about her new home and its charming, yet eccentric, inhabitants. She slowly ends up having to toss everything she understood about herself and her life out the window. But by that time, things have gone pear-shaped - it’s too late for her to run from the approaching danger.

Set in a magical enclave inhabited by monsters and alive with the air of mystery, Maggie MacCormack and the Witches’ Wheel explores the complications of family ties, the impact of secrets and lies, and the pain of betrayal.

Fantastical, riveting, I couldn't stop listening!

Absolutely loved every moment of this book. Blackley has created an enthralling universe filled to the cauldron brim with adventure, fun and poignancy.

Maggie, our 12 year old heroine, along with faithful companion, Watts, is a character I immediately bonded with. Her scrappiness and quick-wit are brought to life by an effervescent McDade, whose whirlwind of voices lends itself well to this magical tale.

Blackley's stunning coming-of-age mystery is one to be appalled for its originality. Although the premise of "the destined-to-be-great orphan" is one I've seen many times before, this truly is a one-of-a-kind story, aided by a mysterious yet very real Scottish backdrop.

Can't wait for the next couple of audibooks to become available. Would highly recommend.

Imaginative Story

A story with lots of twists and turns and many characters brought to life by the equally many voices of the narrator Linda McDade. Looking forward to Maggie's next adventure.
