Summary

High school senior Luke Ryan may have gone all-star in baseball the previous year, but nothing about his current life resembles that famed reputation. With Christmas break on the horizon, he resents the compulsory trip to visit his estranged father in California. Not only is he forced to abandon his mother over the holiday, but his pianist girlfriend, Andrea, also - who seems too preoccupied by her Christmas Eve charity concert to care that they’ll be apart.

On the way to California, he meets free-spirit Charli who spins his world in a completely different direction. Once in his old stomping grounds, he’s forced to face the reality of his sister’s death and his parents’ divorce. Decisions assail him over his future, his girlfriend, and his home. Is he destined to move back to California to secure a baseball scholarship, or does God have another plan for his life?

Quick and easy listen.

I received this via a promo code and this is my honest voluntary review.

Christian Elements in this story might not work for everyone but it was still a sweet teenage Christmas love story.

Luke hates the compulsory trip to visit his estranged father in California, especially when its violating the agreement they'd made which means he's going to be leaving his mother alone over Christmas, to go see the admission office for UCLA. It's particularly stressful when his pianist girlfriend. Andrea makes him doubt her commitment to their relationship.... surely she should be more upset that he wont be around? Back in his old stomping grounds is hard enough after his parents divorce as he grieves for his sister, Luke discovers that his dad is getting remarried... and that the girl he met on the plane, Charlie is going to be his new stepsister. Difficult conversations about scholarships and possibly moving back with his dad to attend public school in California to save on tuition strain his relationship with his father. The narrator does a great job in getting through the teen angst as he weighs the options to find out if holding onto his love with Andrea is only going to cause more pain.
